We held Kathy's service here last evening. Just a few friends, family members, and neighbors attended. We didn't publish an obituary in the local newspaper. I did not want a prolonged viewing with everyone telling me how wonderful she looked. Just our closer circle of friends and my family. She wanted her best friend Gail to sing so Gail sang two hymns and our local priest and a seminarian came and held a short prayer service. There were a lot of our bowling friends that came for the viewing and only a few stayed for the prayer service. We both had been very active in the bowling community for the entire 20+ years we have been here and in lieu of flowers people were asked to donate to the local youth bowling program. We have made a donation to the program every year to help with the expenses of chartering a bus and paying for the hotel when the kids go to the state tournament.
It was hard. I am not dealing real well with the loss of my Kathy. The service up there in NY will be easier because I will be surrounded by her family and mine. I told my boys not to bother traveling down here for that short little service and viewing when we are having a full funeral next Thursday in Whitesboro, with a mass and graveside service. I am blessed to have both my sister and my brother and their families here, but the majority of our loved ones are in NY and Ohio and the Utica area will forever be "home."
They actually live streamed the service, which was nice and I have been able to send the link to those family and friends that are scattered to the winds and not able to attend the services. I imagine that Dimbleby will stream the service at their location also.

For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven. Time will heal all wounds. And everything has its own time. So we can mourn with hope. Scripture does not put a limit on how long we should feel the effects of dealing with death of a loved one. Rather, it tells us to come alongside those who are sitting in sorrow (Rom. 12:15). We have this: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” (Matthew 5:4). Rest in that comfort, Clipper as your family and friends stand in harmony with you at this time under heaven.

The funeral will be in the Twin Cities. We are trying to make arrangements now (trying to borrow a car rather than renting one). She was 96.
My father had 5 siblings, my mother 3. Of that group only my Uncle Dale is still alive. I have more than 30 first cousins, all younger. Five of my cousins have passed away. My cousin Craig has had 2 strokes.
This morning, I awoke from a dream that I was back at the University of Minnesota Duluth. I'm not sure how that fits into this narrative.

Sorry CB drive safely. I was just thinking of my family. My Italian Mom's side of family my Grandmother and Grandfather had a total of 20 children. Only 10 lived. Of them all are deceased. On my German Fathers side of family they had 3 children and they are all deceased. My German Grandmother had 8 children and they are all deceased. Of all the cousins I once had two are alive in South Carolina and Gulf Side of Florida but they also have a apartment in Hong Kong. I have a cousin from one Uncle in Colorado. So nobody living is in this area at all. I have a sister in this area and a brother. I haven't seen or talked to brother since my Mom died 15 years ago which is no loss. Ya know what they say...brothers and such a bother!. My sister and brother in laws kids are scattered but live in New York State but to far for regular visits. It is a bit of a shock when visiting the two cemeteries where the families are buried or entombed all one sees is tombstone after tombstone. Need to carry a lot of small stones when visiting their graves. That is a very old Jewish custom that I picked up when in Seminary learning about religious practices of all religions.

I don't have a truck anymore & I needed to replace a few deck boards. I checked with all the rental agencies & the cost was at least $100.+ for mileage, insurance etc. I only needed the truck for an hr or so. I ended up at UHaul, rented a Chevy pickup with an 8 ft bed & it cost me less then $60, & I went to Home Depot, back home with the boards & back to UHaul in a little less then an hour. It would have cost me 3 times,as much at Hertz or wherever. Sorry I'm off topic........

Thanks BHU. I think more than 3 consecutive on topic posts breaks one of the board rules.

Today is a rough one. Calling hours at Dimbleby's from 5 to 7 and mass and burial tomorrow. I have to meet with the deacon from St Pauls to decide the music and any eulogy that anyone would care to share at the church. The details just never end.
I am staying out in Verona Beach at her nephews camper in Holme's Marina campground. It is a new campground and no wifi. I will probably be out of touch for a couple more days other than to find wifi at McDonald's or somewhere to check my mail and fb.

So how are you doing Clipper. I watched the service in Tennessee. May Kathy rest in peace. Not of nothing why was the priest wearing black? The vestment colors for a funeral service is supposed to be white to reflect the nature of the Resurrection of Christ. While there is sorrow over death that is trumped over the joy of resurrection with its message of hope.
I am sorry but I just had to say that about the color choice...

It must be up to the individual store, but our home depot used to rent a truck to take stuff home for 20 bucks plus mileage. It must not have been profitable or practical because they don't offer that any more. I took 26 eight foot treated 4x4s home for a guy a few months before I got rid of my truck. He was getting ready to load them in the back of a Toyota Rav4. He was building a fence. He said he was going to have the fence panels delivered. Smart man, LOL.

Lowe's on their website says they rent pickups so I called every store from the valley to Rome & none of them offer it. Same deal with HD. The boards have been sitting in my garage for the past two weeks because with this heat & humidity the stain will never dry & I have to stain the entite deck. At close to $60/gallon at last year's price I'm not taking any chances.
