Eight Weeks: November 10 is the target date to move into the new facility. 680 employees one entrance and exit, do the math. This is not going to work out. This should have been resolved on both ends before the building was built.

So today Dan Gilligan and Earle Reed make the front cover of the OD. They must be the new spokespersons for economic development in our area.
So they now threaten us with The Hartford moving cause of this. Bulls**t!! I'm sure they will make some sweet deal with Larry Adler, who can probably afford to pay for the intersection himself.
So, if they have to bond for the $3 million, do they have to put that up for the voters of NH?

Just another day in the crooked and sad political world of New Hartford NY. I saw in the OD that Earl Reed is going to run again. He says he has "unfinished projects" haha. I have to agree with that statement, but I think most people were hoping that he would NOT run again, and that his underhanded, misguided projects would NOT be completed, LOL.
Another 840 intersection simply to appease the employees of one company, or to sell the area on the motel corporation, is wrong. It is something that will be paid for and will effect the whole county, not simply the employees of the Hartford.
Anyone would like a special interchange to drop them directly into their employers parking lot. Hell, people have wanted another interchange on the Thruway for years, but the need doesn't justify the means. What they need to build is a decent service road or access road from 840 to the Westmoreland Thruway Interchange. The people from the Hartford, and for the proposed motel, can get off of 840 and follow the signs from Middle Settlement Rd, or Clarks Mills road to the business park.
If I were the people of NH, I would make an empty promise of my own. I would promise Earl Reed and associates in town government, anything, up to and including eternal life and a large cash stipend to simply retire from politics and disappear.

It isn't a matter of the convenience of wanting to be dropped off at the doorstep of the new building, but mainly a traffic and safety issue. One entrance and exit for 680 people? 680 people trying to exit onto Woods Highway? What will that do to the local traffic patterns? It was poor planning on both ends. One Entrance in and out of the business park that happens to be off of Woods Highway is not going to work. It will be a nightmare getting in and out of the Park as well as dangerous exiting off of Woods Highway. I have traveled Woods Highway everyday for the last nine years. It is narrow and there are turkeys and deer crossing the road daily. I know it is easy to say we don't need the Hartford here but they do employ 680 local people, have good benefits and very competitive salary packages. Do we need 680 local tax paying economy boosting citizens on unemployment or relocating to another area? And Yes I work at the Hartford......

Build them a service road to either Clarks Mills and 840, or to Middle Settlement and 840. Hell there is only two rush hours a day, and Chicago Pneumatic traffic didn't bring East Utica to a stop with the congestion on Bleecker St, nor did Special Metals in it's heyday. Simply improve Woods Road, or build a service road. Hell the 840 will look like the arterial downtown if they build another interchange or intersection within the one or two mile stretch.
Why cause a congestion problem at rush hour with a single intersection serving the Hartford, caused by arriving or departing employees going in both directions, when it can be divided between two existing intersections with only half of the rush hour traffic going in each direction, toward either Clarks Mills Rd or Middle Settlement. If it plugs up Middle Settlement for 15 minutes or a half hour, so be it.
Are the Hartford employees so special that they deserve to be spared the inconvenience of commuting to work in the "horrible gridlock" of the bustling metropolis of New Hartford NY? Give me a break!
If Earl Reed and cohorts in NH have their way, the 840 expressway will become simply another congested extension of Commercial Drive. "Express" will be dropped from the equation.

The "bustling metropolis" on Woods Highway? Have you ever driven that road? Don’t let the "Highway" part of it fool you. I know if I was a resident on Woods Hwy I'd be up in arms over 680 people driving past my house twice if not 4 times a day. Nobody is demanding an intersection for 840. Just an alternative to what is available at this point. Oh, and yes, we are that special, lol.

Dont get me started on what has become of Stone Rd. now. Thanks to the DOT, the 840 traffic has pretty much destroyed the road. Wait till someone gets hurt there dodging some of the many tractor trailers on there. Smiley, whats it like now when it's quitting time at The Hartford's present location. There is not a light there on Middle Settlement Rd. Just curious. We DO need the 680 jobs, thats for sure, but the planning of all this was horrible, and typical Earle Reed crap. Good thing they ran the water and sewer lines. Surprised they didnt wait till they were ready to move in.

I work at the PAR location there are two entrances and exits. Woods Highway is not equiped for that amount of traffic. The road is narrow and they are not widening anymore then they have they can't. Middle Settlement Road is wider and goes to four lanes at the intersections as well as having a turning lane into the facility. You will not see a turning lane on Woods Highway unless you use the ditch. The planning was poor on both ends. I thought another access road from Middle Settlement or from Clark Mills Road would have been the logical thing to do... but whatever... funny how they waited with this concern until 60 days before the move!

60 days so now Reed and Gilligan will cry. Horrible planning.
Yeah, They shoulda planned on a road next to the new Lowes. They are upgrading the signals at the Middle Settlement - Lowes intersection now, plus they wanted to expand Middle Settle Rd. anyway, didnt they?
And whats up with Dan Gilligan talking about this? He gonna run for some Town office come November?

Yes Smiley, I have driven Woods Highway. I seem to remember it as rough, narrow and with deep ditches on both sides. I can see where there is no room for improvement on the present Woods Rd, which takes me back to the service road concept. Also with 840 in existence we need to re-address the need for access to Exit 32 from 840 and from New Hartford ,Whitestown and Oriskany.

Agreed! I was under the assumption that there was going to be an access road by the new Lowes. I went to a meeting last week that showed us the layout of the building etc.. the only questions that were asked at the meeting were about the entrance and exiting of the business park and the only answers that we got were that they were working on alternatives. Hoepfully I will be working remotely soon and won't have to worry about it!

Why not put a road through from Middle Settlement Road to the Hartford via the Lowe's lot? Why mess up a perfectly good traffic pattern.

I thought that's how they were gonna get back there anyway. Through the Lowes driveway. Don't ya just love being threatened by these "powerful" people and corporations?! They just built a huge building, spent tons of money on it and they're gonna go someplace else unless they get their way? You would think they would want to make their neighbors happy by finding a compromise. Silly me.
