It is 6:30 and still 88 degrees. The heat index is 99 according to the six o'clock news. Tomorrow will be even worse. It is going to be 96 or so and the heat index is expected to be between 100 and 110.
I cooked pork chops on the grill for supper. Just sitting in a lawn chair watching the grill I was sweating enough to need a sweat towel to blot my forehead with. I rubbed the chops this morning with Longhorn Steak House seasoning and let them marinate all day. I also grilled some fresh asparagus spears, spritzed with olive oil and dusted lightly with garlic powder.

I read about the heat your way and in the far west. I guess all this about climate change and super warming of the planet in heat prone area particularly will be with us for some time. Pork Chops sound delish..... Oh and I love asparagus but for some reason it makes for a gout flare up so I avoid it.

Asparagus is high in purines but there are a lot of mixed opinions on whether it causes gout flares. My gout is pretty well controlled so I don't totally avoid it, but I don't eat it often.

I guess I am lucky not to have experienced gout. Knock on wood. Asparagus has been fairly inexpensive here lately so we have eaten it several times in the last month or so. I I love asparagus and Brussels sprouts. They are two of my favorite vegetables. A few weeks ago Kathy made cream of asparagus soup. I hadn't had that since I was a kid and my grandmother fixed it.
He cream soups and chowders are far from low cal and low fat though. She uses a mixture of heavy cream, half and half and whole milk, and she usually tosses in a stick of butter before she is done.

Sounds great. Gout is no fun. I had a flair several years ago. I could not stand even the pressure of a sock in my left foot.

Kathy said she had it once and had to sleep with her foot hanging out from under the covers because it hurt so bad to just have the sheet touch it.
No gout here. Asparagus is $1.57lb so I will grab a couple more bunches today while I am out. Ribeyes are $6.99 lb in a family pack. I will grab a couple of those packs for the freezer and toss a couple of them on the grill later for supper. Kathy is going to make a macaroni salad and blanched broccoli floret salad with ranch dressing. She boiled the macaroni early this morning so she won't have to heat up the kitchen cooking anything now in the heat of day.

Pork chops on the grill here also with salt potatoes tossed with butter & a tossed salad.
I'll burn off that fat after changing a few deck boards that were checked. The heat coming off the deck is wicked in full sun, I probably sweated off a couple pounds. Beautiful day, nice & sunny.

Well the forecast was right on for Bristol. When we left to go to Kingsport for dinner with friends it was the forecasted 96 degrees. When we arrived in Kingsport both the thermometer in the car and two bank thermometers showed 100 degrees. It was sweltering to the point of being hard to breathe. Leaving Olive Garden was like walking into an oven. The heat hit you in the face the minute you opened the door to the outside. I like warm, but this heat is ridiculous and will not be letting up much until a cold front moves in on Friday and Saturday.

It is hot again today. It was 91 when I came home from the hardware store. I have been working in the shop and it is only about 75 in there and I am staying cool with a fan. Having the back half of the garage built into the slope keeps it cooler in there than if it was standing alone in the sun.
They were forcasting severe storms this afternoon followed by clearing by 5pm. The storms just passed through. We didn't get and high winds but it poured rain like a cow peeing on a flat rock.
Time to get out the grill for ribeyes and grilled summer squash.

Yup very cold day with some light rain this morning but none of that stopped the Back Juneteenth Celebration in Chancellor Park. You should see it. BBQ all over the place with fires a roasting and music blaring this will go on to 8 PM then the big fun starts when the young kids 20 somethings really blast the hell out of speakers playing there rap with the most vulgar language. I left my apt at 10:30 AM as they were setting up some places and returned 4:15PM. Hopefully they all will be out of the park at 9PM which is the actual closing time.

We get two days of moderating temperatures. It is only about 80 here today rather than in the nineties. Down about 15 degrees from yesterday and the day before. It will be in the high 70s to low 80s tomorrow again and the back to the heat wave again.
80 felt wonderful today. I spent the entire day working in the yard. Mowing, weed whacking, cutting brush along our back line fence, trimming low hanging limbs, weeding in the garden. I am on my way out to pick up Jersey Mikes subs for supper and then a shower and the recliner for the rest of the evening.

There's a Jersey Mike's here in Consumer Square. We've been wanting to order from there but haven't yet. How is it?
What an evening we're having here. Bright & sunny, calm wind, barely a cloud in the sky, temp about 60*. Good night for a campfire.
