Jersey Mike's is our favorite sub shop around here, but then again, we don't have the wide variety of pizza shops and deli's that make great subs here. Our choices are pretty much Subway, Jimmy John's, as well as a couple of pizza places that make subs, but with the exception of Jimmy John's they use the cheapest, lowest quality cold cuts money can buy and slice it so thin you could read the newspaper through it.
When we lived in N. Utica my favorite subs came from Venice Pizzeria in Yorkville, or a pizza shop in the N. Utica shopping center.
Jersey Mike's uses high quality meats and fresh toppings and their subs are uniformly well stuffed and worth the money they charge. Kathy likes their Philly cheese steak, and I always order the #13 Italian cold cuts sub.
I actually had my first Jersey Mike's Subs in the 1970's. Spilka's Hotel used to charter a Central NY Coach Lines bus and put together a deep sea fishing trip for blue fish on a boat the sailed out of Point Pleasant New Jersey. The original Jersey Mike's shop was in a store front in Point Pleasant and the group used to place a large order of 20 or 30 sandwiches to take out on the boat. The group leader would call in the order and the sandwiches were ready so all I had to do was pull the bus up in front of the shop and the group leader would go in and pay for the subs and bring out two or three cardboard boxes filled with the sandwiches and put them in plastic bag lined coolers.
I always got a cash tip and usually someone on the bus would take a fish out of their cooler and would put a blue fish or two in a trash sack. I don't like blue fish so I always gave them to the guy that cleaned the buses. They always had to steam clean the luggage bays under the bus and leave the bus out doors for awhile with the luggage doors open to air out the smell of fish.
The load of coolers probably weighed more than the combined weight of all the passengers, haha. One bay would be filled with the coolers for their fish and a second bay would be filled with coolers full of beer and soda.

Ditto on Jimmy John's. There is a shop in New Hartford that we ordered from once & never went back. We'll have to check out Jersey Mike's some night when it's too hot to cook inside or stand over a flaming grill. Time for an exchange on the propane tank anyway cuz it's empty.

The subway shop up in Consumer Square at Walmart has changed management once again. They have also removed a lot of tables and I see that the number of customers has dropped significantly. I am up there a lot at different times of day but way before 5PM and I usually see maybe one or two people eating. Most days no one is there. There subs are no good anyways

With no exaggeration there are at least 8 or 10 Subway locations here in the Bristol Va/Tn metro area. One on every corner and some in convenience stores. Just as you have seen around there, there are seldom any crowd of in-house diners or an overflow of customers. Several shops have closed and more franchises are sure to follow. Subway has just earned a crappy reputation and there are too many other much better alternative places to get a sandwich.

I think Subway & Dunkin Donuts are in competition over who can open up more shops. They're all over.
I stopped in Dunkin a few days ago & ordered a small regular. I asked the kid behind the counter for a couple ice cubes cuz the coffee is so hot you can't drink it. What's he do? Grabs an ice scoop & dumps half of it in my coffee spilling the coffee & ice & all over the counter. He apologized & I told him give me another one but hold the ice this time. Lol

Now McD's always got that correct for me. I always ask for two or three ice cubes in my coffee and I do not care if you use your fingers.

Me too PB. If they don't want to put the cubes in the coffee with their hand I have them put some in a cup. At McDonald's I just get a few cubes from the dispenser on the soda machine. Dunkin has good coffee but I still prefer McDonald's coffee.
I stopped a McDonald's recently on the way home from a doctor's appointment. I tried one of the apple fritters on their new pastry menu. My god. You could have played street hockey with the darned thing.

Well, our couple of days of tolerable temperatures is over. We are back to the low to mid nineties again for the next few days. 84 degrees and climbing at noon.
I got a deal on 50 round boxes of 9mm ammo for $14 a box so I am going to head over to the VFW pistol range and burn a few rounds. The firing line is under a roof and shaded by trees and the post is open for a cold soda or two and a bit of chit chat with some fellow members.

Lol The other business in competition to see who can open the most stores is Dollar General. There is one of those every couple of miles around here. We can literally drive to 7 different Dollar General stores in about 15 minutes or less.

I went for a Bus ride ( just to away from this place) Monday up to Kellogg Mall in New Hartford. When the Bus left the Mall to head back a Dollar Tree was in the process of being built just to the left of the entrance to the Mall about a few feet down that street. I was surprised to see that is such a place. Also the Bus has a automatic system of announcing each upcoming side street for the disabled. We approached Utica from New Hartford on Genesee St and the announcement was for Costa too mucha eatery. I looked and it is no longer there. Torn down for another Cliffs Gas Station, lol.

PS you are going to get a lot of heat the rest of the week as that heat front passes through. Be careful Sometimes I wonder about this. When I lived 8 years in Southeast Missouri in Eureka we would get temps in the high 90's to 100 degrees this time of year. I remember one March I was given the duty which eventually put me in charge of our recreation center a mile up the hill from us. I decided to paint the inside of the inground swimming pool which was real large from 4 feet to 15 feet in depth. I started in the 4 foot area and worked my way to the end. I was not thinking of the sun pouring on my nor the fact the paint was white. One of the Brother came up to help during lunch break between shifts and says to me hey Brother I think you better call it a day. I said why. He said your are as red as a beet. Oh boy was I. And did it hurt that night and next day. I got a very sever sunburn and when it blistered I experiences Hell in all its might. I learned a lesson. St Francis would be pleased that I did not curse Brother Sun.
