Kim,, frank's advice is a good one (that in itself is amazing ;D) when he said for a kid go cheap until they get older. I went through that with all of my four boys. Just around your son's age they got their first interest in it. I was the fool and went all out on equipment and books. Big mistake! Their interest at that age didn't last to long until they reached their teen years when I was so happy they and their buddies found the interest again. I was happy, UNTIL, I caught them in their upstairs bedroom viewing the pretty girl living across the street. Guess "it's a guy thing." After listening to their lame excuse that her house was just in the field of view I figured so much for their interest and I took the equipment away from them. There is a good end to my story. My boys are all grown now and they now have the interest back in the right way. I hope!!!!!

Hey Clipper, he does have a way of keeping us on our toes. and at my age, he keeps my mind intact. Guess I have to thank him for that but that's not going to be an easy thing to do.

Whoa! This is a tough room. Either that or I have a wicked reputation. I'd like to think it is the latter.
And no, I don't use my telescope across the road. But I will confess to using the beach at the State Park across the lake to ... er ... test my lenses for distortion. Oh baby.
And Kim? Clipper reminded me. Do NOT let your son take the telescope up to his room alone at night.

Awww, bobbbiez beat me to the punch. You gotta get up PRIT TEE early in the morning to pull one over on that girl. And thanks for putting such a nice spin on my verbal abuse. I'm not really a misogynist. I just appreciate misogynistic humor, doncha know?

A few years ago, one of my good friends was on his boat with his wife for an afternoon of aimless drifting. After sipping ice tea for a few hours, he stood up on the bow of his craft in the middle of Delta to relieve himself. (Did you ever wonder where those warm spots in the lake come from?)
A few hours later, when they returned home, he was checking his email and noticed a photo attachment in a letter from a mutual friend of ours. When he opened the picture, there was a full frame picture of himself with a firm grip on the situation. It turns out our friend had just purchased a new telephoto lens for his digitial camera and was testing it out on his dock that day.
