Coronavirus NY state: No more Covid-19 vaccination appointments until April There aren't enough doses to go around, state says. Syracuse, N.Y. -- New York state announced today that all Covid-19 vaccine appointments are full through mid-April. In black all caps against a bright red box on its website, the state Department of Health said: “CURRENTLY APPOINTMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE FOR THE NEXT 14 WEEKS.” The site notes that over 7 million New Yorkers are now eligible for the vaccines, and the state is getting just 300,000 vaccines a week. The health department notes that the vaccines are also being given by pharmacies and county health departments. You’re unlikely to get spots at those, though. Kinney Drugs filled all 7,500 slots across the state in five hours; the chain’s website now says all appointments are booked and begs people “NOT to call your local store.” The vaccines were initially available in December to high-risk hospital workers, then expanded to doctors offices and other non-hospital professionals who saw patients. The universe of people eligible for the shots expanded greatly this week, as the state added anybody over 65 and a variety of professions, including teaching and law enforcement. Each vaccine requires two doses, either 21 or 28 days apart. The state has said the second appointment will be scheduled when you get the first dose. www.syracuse.com/coronavirus/2021/01/ny-state-no-more-covid-19-vaccination-appointments-until-april.html?e=b34fc7146ad577d0cec7edf24a5b4609&utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter_breaking&utm_term=Newsletter_coronavirusCan our government do anything correctly.

I was talking this morning on the phone with the nurse with my Doctors office and she said everyone is vaccinated at Slocum. They are going to do a clinic to vaccinate those who want it but not sure when and said maybe late April providing vaccine arrives on time. Right now they are awaiting the refrigerator system for storage.

I wonder if Cuomo screwed it up. They put it in the hands of states to distribute the vaccines. There is no shortage here for the time being. I hope it stays that way. Kathy and I are supposed to wait another 2 1/2 months if we follow our doctor's recommendation. I think he is basing that timeline assuming that we are immune for at least 90 days because we have had the virus and recovered. It the vaccines start getting hard to get here I will go to the VA and get the shots. I think their supply would be better supplied than county health departments if a shortage arises.
For now they are vaccinating 1000 people a day at she speedway.

I'm no fan of Cuomo's by any means, but N.Y.S. is not getting enough vaccine. You can't vaccinate people without it. From what I understand there was supposed to be 200 million doses on hand. So, where the hell is it? Or am I wrong on the 200 million?

It might be because Cuomo hates Trump so much that he wouldn't accept vaccine until he had HIS medical experts determine it was safe. I guess he has some medical genius tucked away that knows more than scientists and the doctors that approved it for use. He came to the table late and it delayed NY getting the vaccine. Blame Cuomo for not coordinating with the feds to determine how much NY should get on the first round. OH WAIT. Maybe we should just lay aside the blame game and focus on the more positive things. Be happy that there IS vaccine to distribute and you live in a country where they are working hard to get shots into every person's arm in the country as fast as they can.
It could also be because the manufacturers over estimated how much they could provide, as well as how much they would provide to other countries.
I wonder if there is really that big of a shortage of vaccine in NY or if Cuomo is sending it all to his disgusting compadre De Blasio and others downstate. With the high population downstate and higher death rates, it is probably NECESSARY to allocate most of the vaccine to downstate. One more liability of living upstate. OOPS! there I go, blaming someone. See how easy it is to slip into blame mode?
The federal government left it up to Governors to determine how the vaccination programs would be run on a state level. It is sad that you are saddled with the major hotspot and the mouth of the Hudson.
People are looking for people to blame. The vaccines were developed in record time and are being distributed as fast as they can make them. I am confident that it will get a lot better by spring. Not long ago in our area they reported that over 30% of those tested were testing positive. There was real danger of running out of ICU beds and vents. It has been two weeks since New Years Day and the surge from people traveling for the holidays is thought to have come and is lessening. They are cautiously optimistic that things are improving. The number of hospitalizations is down, the number of deaths is down significantly. The number of ICU beds and vent is better than it has been. There was only one death in our county yesterday. They think that the curve is once more flattening. Now if only people will observe the cautions provided and take it seriously, things might get much better between people being vaccinated and people masking up, avoiding groups, and distancing when out in public.
Here in our county they are already making vaccinations available to anyone over 65 with any kind of vulnerability. The VA is making it available to ANY veteran over 65. They vaccinated 1000 people in one day at the speedway, and a few hundred more at the site in Kingsport at the community center. Living in a less populated state has it's advantages.

All across the country the vaccine is falling short. It is hard to blame anyone. The HHS secretary is on the NBC. He says that Trumps statement that there would be a certain number of doses given by the end of the year were projections depending on early approval by the FDA and the FDA was later approving it.
BIden is promising more clinics, streamlined processes to get the vaccine into people's arms, mobile vaccine sites, all well and good, but his promises are hinged on releasing the reserve supplies. THOSE supplies don't exist and he knows they don't. ALL those politicians are lying bastards. It is all about politics when it SHOULD be all about cooperation, not blame.
Trump is being blamed for releasing the reserve doses all at once, depleting the supply, while Biden is promising to do the same thing.
When vaccine IS available governors in some cases are choking the flow to the public with over managed restrictive policies for who will get it and when.
In reality we all just have to wait until the supply and rate of manufacture and availability increases. This is just no time for political bullshit, blame games OR promises that can't be kept. The powers to be need to quit spewing rhetoric, covering their asses, and focus on contributing to the solution instead of condemnation.
Be thankful that you live upstate and not in the middle of the mess NYC, or Los Angeles. has.

Let me be clear: This vaccination event is a mess. Now there is no reserve of doses. What next.....

The next thing will be to wait while the supplies are increased and distributed. I read somewhere the other day that there are two more vaccines almost ready for market. I am sure that production will ramp up and more companies will produce a vaccine.
I imagine we will see the shortage here also before it gets better. It is actually a bit of a comforting feeling to have already had covid and survived with an assumed immunity at least for a period of time. How wierd is that to be glad that you have been sick with a virus that is killing people by the thousands?

I'll be a lot more "thankfull" about living in Upstate N.Y. when my elderly relatives, some in their 80's are able to get the vaccine. So far they haven't had much luck. When an administration promises to have a reserve supply of vaccine on hand then it turns out to be total bullshit, I guess we'll just have to put up with more spin. At least until wednesday at 12 noon. And if Biden screws things up he'll hear about it & we'll see if he uses the old "fake news" hot air anytime someone asks questions that he doesn't like. Or rant & rave like a spoiled child.

According to the CDC website the number distributed is more like 16 million. I was wondering how many doses the Feds have on hand & where they are. I'm sure my figure is way off.

We know a couple that live in Mohawk that are trying to get a vaccination for her 94 yr old mother and haven't been able to. They did finally get an appointment. They were worried because they had been exposed and had to quarantine and they had been around her. Thank goodness neither they or the old gal tested positive or have come down with it. They can get her the vaccine in mid February but they live in Herkimer County.
Even here where the vaccine has been more available the county health dept drive thru clinics do most of the vaccinating and you don't have to have an appointment. I have heard about people waiting over 4 hours to get their shot. What 90+ yr old would be able to tolerate sitting in a car for that long with no bathroom available and no place to really stretch their legs? 4 hours? Heck I would have to get out of line and go somewhere to pee at least once in four hours. I would never make it to the front of the line, haha.

Who knows Clipper. There is so much misinformation out there it's unreal. No one seems to know what the other hand is doing. There was supposed to be a clinic at the Utica Aud but was cancelled because there's no vaccine. There was one at MVCC, but trying to get scheduled is a joke. The criteria on who's eligible keeps changing, which is confusing the public, etc., etc. etc. Here's a suggestion. WHEN the vaccine is available & on actually on hand, not just promised, set up various clinics around the county, let the health dept. administer it & keep Albany the hell out of it. Picente is right on that score, imho. Have a good day.

"set up various clinics around the county, let the health dept. administer it & keep Albany the hell out of it. Picente is right on that score, imho. Have a good day."
That has worked well here. Our county health departments are running the show and our local healthcare provider that owns the hospitals and other medical facilities is on board with them and assisting in running clinics in cooperation with the county. You have a good day also.
