What will they try next. You would think they would be putting their efforts into another plan instead of beating a dead horse.

This is power for NY City. Not necessarily power needed, but CHEAPER power. Tax impact is laughable, better that politicians reduce spending. Giving hundreds of thousands of dollars more to school districts will not raise student accomplishment one iota. And you can bet that the lines won't be up more than 30 seconds before a horde of city slicker lawyers descends upon local assessors to threaten massive law suits to reduce their assessments. Amen, brother!

The repetitive history of upstate being simply a place to be siphoned for the good of the city of NY is simply sad and sickening. We have become a place that simply provides power, water, agricultural products such as milk, tax money to subsidize transportation, tax money to fund infrastructure improvements, and on and on and on. New York City may be the "economic engine" that drives the state, but it also is driving it into bankruptcy. They need to start finding ways to provide for their own needs, through nuclear or hydro power, DOWNSTATE. They all ride to work on public trans, that we pay for and subsidize. It costs you a couple of tanks of gas a week to get to work. They ride the subway and we subsidize the fares, What is with that? NYRI is just one more bit of shit that will be crammed down upstate NY's throat in one form or another. It simply has to be fought to the end, and kept off the presently proposed route. That is about the most we can hope for. Money buys power. Money buys votes also. As long as the power companies have the money, they are going to "buy" the politcal power to reach their goals. I only can hope that upstate politicians can be kept from selling out to them with such bogus shit as the idea that the line will generate enough tax revenue to make it worth the scab on the landscape.

NYRI is a done deal.
Sorry, but the protests, petitions, and posturing of upstate mean absolutely nothing against the economic power, and more importantly the political power, of downstate. Downstate politicians are overwhelmingly in favor of the project and it's supported by several powerful unions. The only real variable is where the lines will be sited.
I still think the final route will run along the Marcy South corridor, but the supposed "compromise" to run the lines along the thruway has already been endorsed by Congressman Arcuri and the former Governor Spitzer.
Cordially, Z

I believe you're correct, Z, about the inevitability. Even though there are groups trying to show the power is not needed. Running the line down the Thruway is the craziest idea I ever heard of... wait, belay that ... the MagLev Train down the middle of the Thruway was even crazier ... "hold on to your coffee, Margaret" ... but I remember finding out a few years ago just how much of my front yard was restricted by the county's right of way provisions on the road I live on, if the county so chose. We might find some day that the Thruway Authority actually has a right of way a mile or more wide!

I have no intention of causing bodily harm to anyone:
With that being said, the only way this thing will get stopped or at least delayed is to physically stop the operation by sabotage or civil unrest and I don't see anything to that level happening with the apathy of the upstate population. We can't even get them off their asses to vote and get rid of the politicians that keep sinking us.

Uh, Wilum ..... most of us can't afford to go to jail. It might be cheaper to move.
"We can't even get them off their asses to vote and get rid of the politicians that keep sinking us. " Yes, it's pretty frustrating when I sit and wonder why we can't get rid of them. I finally found out why in an article I read not long ago and it is surprisingly simple. It turns out that while most of us don't like the state's politicians, most of us do like our own state legislator and continue to return him or her to office. So, when everyone across the state does the same, we wind up with the same crew! That's why the idea of term limits holds some promise.

Kim, in order for that wish to become reality, pray that us upstaters start voting for more competent leaders like Tanoury, Jr.

You need intelligent voters to do that, strikeslip. Unfortunately, to most, ignorance is bliss.
