He makes me sick! So I wrote him again and told him so!
You Sir and your Minions have committed a crime against the Citizens of our state. Unfettered means just that, you have officially scrapped the second most important Right we have in our Bill of Rights and summarily disregarded those that fought and died to ensure those rights were unalienable.
I am a lifelong Resident of Upstate NY, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Small Business Owner, Employee, Retired NYARNG NCO and I vote every single time, so do my friends and employees. I will stay in the state just long enough to vote every single person who signed this Legislation out of office and not a day longer.
Early on, I was a supporter of yours but now I wouldnt vote for you or anyone standing near you if you were the resurrection Of Abraham Lincoln! The state was quite divided before your criminal action. After; its gonna look and feel like a civil war and a mass exodus mixed.
Tens of thousands of us wrote you prior but you didnt listen or care. The Good news for us Upstaters is that you probably did more to change NY from a Democrat Stronghold to a solid Republican state than anyone in my 50+ year lifetime.
I will join hands with those that seek to throw you and your supporters out of office and from what Im seeing, ten million others will do the same.
4 consecutive Generations of Robinsons have served this Nation and our State proudly, raised our hands and swore to uphold the Constitution. You have dishonored our service by your unconstitutional actions, we will not forgive or forget that. Im lucky, all I have is really old guns that dont fall into your "AW Flavor of the month "Ban" but must ensure Im not a resident of the state the next time someone in Albany tries to pilfer my Rights!
You tell all my Gunsmith, Toolmaker and Machinist neighbors in Illion that Casino jobs will support their families after Remington closes. Inform my two very Democrat friends with extensive firearm Collections that half of their stuff is illegal (they wrote you also)!
Too bad common sense lost out again, your new ileagal law will protect nobody! New York is the laughing stock of the Nation and its gonna cost us our futures if we stay here. The Pro 2A Social Media outlets and forums have Non New Yorkers calling for a ban on any travel into NY or purchase of anything made in New York and its getting traction quickly. I will be planning my exodus from NY just as soon as I can find a state that really is free.
Ive always told my children what I was taught, "If you dont like how things are, call, write and talk to your elected officials and tell them how you feel". Ive been doing that in NY my whole life but now you people in Albany refuse to listen to anyone not buying your $10K a plate dinners before the election so this is my final letter. I will very likely leave the state I love and drag anyone I can with me because of you.
Respectfully
SSG John Robinson, NYARNG Inf. Ret.

Well written John, but I doubt that he will listen. I have not seen a list of how our local elected help voted. Has anyone.

Very well-said.
Up to this point, I thought Andy Cuomo was doing a decent job as Governor, and I really thought it was possible that he might be different than the run of the mill politician. Obviously, I was wrong. I fear that as residents of NYS, we are in for a long, sad ride.

He is not taking everyone's guns away from them. Anything that makes it harder to obtain guns should be praised. I would rather see jobs lost at Remington than innocent children and adults mowed down in bullet sprays from assult rifle's with magazine's equiped with enough bullet's to do it. Jobs or Peoples life's!
(If this message is not displaying properly, click here to launch your browser.) Dear Fellow New Yorker,
Today, Governor Cuomo signed the NY SAFE (Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement) Act – groundbreaking legislation that will put in place the toughest gun laws in the nation to better protect our residents from senseless gun violence, while respecting the rights of legal gun owners and sportsmen.
The NY SAFE Act includes provisions to:
Ban the sale of assault weapons;
Require mental health professionals to report to local mental health officials when they believe a patient is likely to engage in behavior that is dangerous to themselves or others; Make New York the first state in the nation to ban any magazine that can hold more than seven rounds and run instant background checks on all ammunition purchases at the time of sale; Track ammunition sales in real time to alert law enforcement to high volume purchases; Create a statewide standard requiring recertification of pistol permits every five years; Ensure that private sales of guns are subject to a background check; and,
Toughen criminal penalties on those who use illegal guns including measures to help combat gang violence. Click here to learn more about the legislation.
The bill balances the urgent need to both crack down on these lethal weapons and keep our communities safe, while still ensuring that sportsmen and other legal gun owners have access to the guns to which they are entitled.
Together, we are ensuring that government works to protect all New Yorkers.
Sincerely,
The Office of the Governor

Very well said. Fall on deaf ears...maybe maybe not. At least you told him how you feel instead of just talking about it.

I would rather see jobs lost at Remington than innocent children and adults mowed down in bullet sprays from assult rifle's with magazine's equiped with enough bullet's to do it. Jobs or Peoples life's! You're entitled to your opinion, but I think that sentiment is misguided. Nothing will stop a madman or woman from wanton killing, and certainly New York's new restrictions will not even make a dent in a crazy person's intent to kill. No, it's untrue that anything that makes it harder to obtain guns should be praised. It should instead be condemned as the government's disregard for rights held by its citizens since the inception of the Republic. New restrictive measures do nothing but allow the government to catalog which citizens have guns while doing nothing about the significant increase in the use of guns by government workers, not including the military. Restricting the purchase of all guns leaves those of us who obey the law at the mercy of those who don't. You may choose to not own a gun, but you have no right to restrict my ownership or use of a gun. You may persist in the belief that the mere existence or presence of guns leads to evil and killing on a massive scale, but you have no evidence to show that is true. On the other hand, there is much evidence that death in America has a number of causes that the government and much of the population choose to ignore. We are living in an age where our participation in the public sphere is brokered by the news and entertainment business who have their own agenda. It is an agenda of filtering and it is not that of a people who wish to live free and protect themselves. It is not an agenda for those who believe they are ultimately responsible for themselves.

Very well written and to the point letter JGR. But I am afraid it will fall like so many before it on deaf and uncaring ears. I wish I could get out of here, have for years and now more than ever. I lived in Texas years ago, and if not for the fact I would have missed on finding Betty, I wish I had never left.
Alan……………….
1. There are no such weapons as “assault weapons”. There are assault rifles which are military. The rest are just dressed up rifles to look spiffy and are no different from any other long gun.
2. By limiting the rounds from 10 to 7 they have just reduced the self defense aspect of a repelling a home invasion by one or more individuals by 30%.
3. Criminal's ammunition won’t be tracked.
4. Criminals don’t require pistol permits.
5. Criminals don’t buy their weapons legally and do not require background checks…..just cash.
6. Criminals and Gangs could care less about penalties, never have, never will……that’s why they’re criminals.
7. Criminals don’t care about the legislation other than it means their victims will be less likely to prevent an attack.
“The bill balances the urgent need to both crack down on these lethal weapons and keep our communities safe, while still ensuring that sportsmen and other legal gun owners have access to the guns to which they are entitled.”
This bill will not save one life or stop one crime from being committed. If anything, it will ensure that criminals have an adequate supply of victims in the very near future.

Alan, your ideas are thoughtful, sensible and reasonable. All that said, those are three things criminals are not and never will be!
Now, instead of "just" street corner Drug Vendors and Prostitutes, you will have thugs selling 30 round magazines and black market reloads for insane amounts of money. Homemade IED style weaponry is far easier to construct and much more lethal will replace guns for those who cant get or dont have the money to buy Hot Guns!! 10 gallons of gasoline and a Zippo Lighter is the epitome of an Assault weapon with a Hi-Cap Magazine. Which one do you think might be the least devastating?
The possibility that someone could be tracked down through a legal purchase is now impossible for investigators cause Thugs dont check ID's, do Background Checks or register sales with the local "Authorities". Im sure the other Governors will thank Coumo for causing an uncontrolled flooding of their states with post ban devices and none will end up in the hands of criminals!!!
Ask a soldier (1 of thousands, not 26) that just came back from Afghanistan with no legs which weapon he would rather have gone up against- A Kalashnikov Rifle or an IED (Cellphone, some wire, a little black powder, shoved in a 2" steel pipe, sealed at both ends, all legal and easy to get)? One is alot easier to hide than the other and remote detonation only costs you the price of a $19.99 track-phone!
This ban doesnt make you safer Alan, it actually puts you in more danger than ever before! The 99.9% (100,000,000 strong) of those who legally support an Unfettered 2A could only have helped save lives that will be lost from those who dont follow laws, the statistics prove that to be the case.
Call 911, better yet arrange for the Undertaker and a burial or 12 because when you need help the most, its at least 15 minutes away, where I live, closer to half an hour.
Boom, click, slide, boom, click, slide, Boom, click, slide, boom, click, slide, Boom, click, slide, boom, click, slide, Boom, click, slide, boom, click, slide, Boom, click, slide, boom, click, slide, Boom, click, slide, boom, click, slide, Boom, click, slide, boom, click, slide, Boom, click, slide, boom, click, slide, Boom, click, slide, boom, click, slide, Boom, click, slide, boom, click, slide, Boom, click, slide, boom, click, slide, Boom, click, slide, boom, click, slide,. That was the sound of NY's new gun law in effect, 30+ shots with a single shot 16 gauge shotgun all completed in less time than it took me to copy and paste it much less get someone there with a badge and a gun to help prevent 30 more of our children from dying!

I believe that the reason all of this is common sense to us is because we are truly law-abiding citizens who are only interested in having the means to defend ourselves if need be.
Our politicians do not care about us. All they care about is themselves and their political careers. If they can push some inane legislation with their name on it to further their own agendas, certainly they will do it. Our lives and well-being are an afterthought only.

alan you are a deluded fool where do u think those remington folks are gonna find jobs it just adds to the numbers that those of us who pay taxes are going to have to support...you are crazy to believe that any of these laws that do nothing but harrass the law abiding wil do any good to stop any deaths

last year alone it is estimated that 2.5 million law abidng citizens succesfully defended themselves against criminal attack with the use of a firearm in the vast majority of these cases not a shot was fired as the mere presence of the gun stopped the illegal activity

Hello -- Today President Obama announced a plan to help protect our kids and communities from gun violence. You're going to hear a lot about it, but I wanted to make sure you got a chance to get the facts, straight from me. After hearing from Americans from across the political spectrum, we decided to focus on some key priorities: closing background check loopholes, banning military-style assault weapons, making our schools safer, and increasing access to mental health services. The ideas we sent to President Obama are straightforward. Each of them honors the rights of law-abiding, responsible Americans to bear arms. Some of them will require action from Congress; the President is acting on others immediately. But they're all commonsense and will help make us a little safer. Now is the time for all of us to act. Read about the events that brought us to this point, learn about the plan we've proposed to help protect our kids, and then add your name in support to help build momentum for this plan. Here's what we've put together: We're calling for requiring background checks for all gun sales and closing the loopholes that allow dangerous individuals to make their purchase without going through one of these checks. We're asking for a new, stronger ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines that allow a shooter to fire dozens of bullets as quickly as he can pull a trigger. And we're asking Congress to help protect law enforcement by make it illegal for members of the public to possess armor-piercing bullets. We're going to give law enforcement more tools and resources to prevent and prosecute gun crimes, and we're going to end the freeze on gun violence research that prevents the Center from Disease Control from looking at the causes of gun violence. We're calling on Congress to help make schools safer by putting up to 1,000 school resource officers and mental health professionals in schools and ensuring they have comprehensive emergency management plans in place. And we're going to increase coverage so that students and young adults can get access to the mental health treatment they may need. We know that no policy we enact or law we enforce can prevent every senseless act of violence in our country. But if we can save the life of even one child, we have a deep responsibility to act. Now is the time to come together to protect our kids. Learn about the plan, then add your name alongside mine: www.whitehouse.gov/now-is-the-timeThanks, Vice President Joe Biden ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D The White House • 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW • Washington, DC 20500 • 202-456-1111 Now where in any of this does a sensible gun control law prevent a person from owning and using regular guns which are suited for the average. I doubt this will cause Remmington Arms any harm. They are using this argument to hide the real reason they will be laying off people. ;D This needs to be done for the future of our children. Yes criminals will still get gun illegally that can't be stopped unless we ban all gun's from our country. Even President Raegan was in favor of gun control

Another overlooked legacy of Reagan: Gun control Michael Collins, in his Feb. 7 op-ed "The overlooked Reagan legacy: decency," overlooked the fact that the late president was a supporter of gun control laws. As governor of California, Ronald Reagan signed the Mulford Act, which prohibited the carrying of firearms on your person, in your vehicle, and in any public place or on the street, and he also signed off on a 15-day waiting period for firearm purchases. After leaving the presidency, he supported the passage of the Brady bill that established by federal law a nationwide, uniform standard of a 7-day waiting period for the purchase of handguns to enable background checks on prospective buyers. He urged then President Bush to drop his opposition to the bill. As reported in the media, after mentioning he was a member of the NRA, President Reagan stated the following at a George Washington University ceremony on March 28, 1991, marking the 10th anniversary of his near assassination: "With the right to bear arms comes a great responsibility to use caution and common sense on handgun purchases. And it's just plain common sense that there be a waiting period to allow local law-enforcement officials to conduct background checks on those who wish to purchase handguns." Enough said So when politicians wrap themselves in the Reagan mantle, which President Reagan are they hugging, the lifelong NRA member, or the common sense statesman?
