I recently was browsing on the CNY Forum page, and found a link to a new site entitled www.Uticadailynews.com. I have only recently discovered it, and have bookmarked it for daily reading. Joe Mezz does some of the photgraphy and it is of great quality. The articles are taken from all over the map, including the OD, WKTV and other sources. It seems to be well edited and organized better than the OD homepage. Can anyone tell me where the website comes from, who posts it, and how long have I been missing out by not knowing of it's existence. This is very interesting and an additional news source for us "out of town Uticans" that are starving for accurate and well informed news from the old hometown. I encourage everyone to check it out, and I appreciate any background or information on it's origin and who "owns" the page.

No clue, Clipper. It almost seems like whomever is publishing this site is trying to hide their identity. There's no Contact us link that I can find.

Thanks Gear. I had never seen it until it was posted the other day on the CNY forums. I noticed the same thing that Frank noticed. I hunted high and low on the page and could not find any contact info, or ownership clues. It seems very fresh and accurate, and carries more news pertinent to daily life, than either the WKTV or the OD sites alone, probably because it takes from more and different sources and combines them in a recipe for good reporting and informational content. Something that both of the other outlets mentioned, are often lacking. I am always glad to see a well composed source of coverage of current events and items of interest, and this fills that bill to a tee. It also manages to fill in the cracks in the reporting of the other two. I have put it near the top of my daily reading list. Every morning I read, 1)the OD homepage, 2) WKTV website 3) MSN homepage4) Faultlines, 5) Poppins Ponderings and then while enjoying my second cup of the ten cup pot that I drink every morning, I click onto Clipper's Corner and read all the new posts., while listening to the national news from both CNN an Fox News. I have placed the new site in ahead of the OD site, and just check the OD for obits and items with comments still open. I laugh when I see a comment section open, and I go back a half hour later and it has disappeared and there is no comment capability available. My thanks to Bill Keeler. I always listened to him when I lived there, but have not had a chance to enjoy his show for quite some time now. Thanks to you once again Gear for informing us about the origin of the page.

I noticed it after reading strikeslip's blog about the site, Welcome To Utica Daily News. It seems like a great site. Much better than the disgrace. I'd also start checking out WTVH-5. They seem to do a much better job covering local stories in a more accurate and investigative manner. Something wktv seems to lack.

Thanks Swimmy. I can't believe I missed that on Fault lines. I ALWAYS read faultlines, but when my back was really bad on the 28th and the 1st, I was taking meds for the muscle spasms and pain, and I could not walk very well, so I was only checking on this site and reading my email a couple of times a day. The rest of the time, I took the meds and was comatose to escape the pain, LOL.
Damn sure hope the surgery on the 10th can fix this mess. I'm having the piece of a disc removed from the nerve canal and two steel plates put in to stabilize that part of my spine.
I am usually bowling 4 nights a week, and hardly ever sit down from morning to night. I am going nuts being immobilized with this damn deal. LOL I don't know how anyone can abuse prescription pain killers. I hate the feeling that they induce when taken in a dose strong enough to kill the pain. Sheesh!

I've been enjoying the Utica Daily News also. And thanks, Swimmy, for the WTVH tip.

According to the headlines on Utica Daily News both yesterday & today, WTVH has laid off their news department.
The site is interesting but needs a lot of work. A review of Delmonicos in News Alerts?

My apologies to Bill Keeler, I didn't catch this yesterday:
"UTICA, N.Y., March 4, 2009--Mayor Angelo Roefaro is hoping to clarify concerns that many Utica residents have about increased taxes, the proposed budget and things they hear in the media. Roefaro scheduled "Tax Talks" throughout the city, so he can speak to groups about these issues."
Not only did he scoop all other news media on the coup in Utica City Hall, but he had the wit to bury it where only those of us "in the know" would find it.
The power of the internet is amazing! I can sit looking at palm trees in the Florida sunshine, and keep up with important events in Utica all through a wireless connection.
My wife won't let me take her laptop to the beach, however.

Sand in your laptop or britches is a bitch, to be sure.

You definitely don't want to get sand in the KY.
Did I say that out loud?

I'll have to bookmark it. Clipper, good luck with your surgery. I know what your going thru with that bad disc. A few years ago, I had a herniated disk in my lower back, so I know it ain't no joyride. I didn't have to go the surgery route, but it took a few months to heal after going to therapy 3 days a week. The pain was brutal, but I got thru it with nothing but Tylenol. I couldn't tolerate the muscle relaxers, & I can't stand the way pain meds zone me out. I slept on the floor for 5 months for the back support no mattress could give me. I also couldn't sit in a chair for more than 10 minutes. But, enough of my experience. Good luck again.

Thanks Kracker. Yeah, I have done the herniated discs and therapy since I fell from a truck and fractured my back. I thought I would get away with it again, but this time the disc broke up and a fragment is in the spinal canal pressing on the nerve. That is a big "awe shit". Hoping for the best. I have the best surgeon in East Tennessee, and he is a neuro guy who specializes in just the type of surgery I am having, so I should be okay. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement.
Gee Frank, Clarence said Florida. Sand in Kentucky won't bother him any, LOLOL. (KY)
