I saw a post on pinterest about it. I didn't copy or save the recipe, but this morning I simply diced some onion real fine, mixed it with the loose hash brown potatoes from a bag, added a little salt and fresh cracked pepper to the mixture. I then placed them on the waffle maker grids, well oiled with canola oil and cooked them until golden brown. While a bit tedious, it makes great hash brown potatoes without having to stand over a skillet and tend to them. They came out great. The major secret to success is to thaw the hash browns, place them in a kitchen towel and wring as much moisture as you can out of them. It takes about 15-20 minutes to cook them and you can go about making the rest of a breakfast while waiting. You can keep them warm on a sheet pan in the oven while you cook several portions.
