Try to keep up, corner Sorry about any confusion -- they are two council persons who rarely do anything of value. Ralph, you're welcome. Your words are still up on the OD but they're back to page 6 or 7 now. As important as they are, they have been pushed aside by stories of 1st Communion, Mother's Day and sports and proms. In other words, life goes on. The discussion is ended, for now. It's fitting that your post will likely be the final words in the conversation. In my mind, it's all the more evidence that the memorial must stay. Otherwise, people will forget. Please consider submitting what you have written here to the editor for publishing? While it won't be any more permanent, it will be read by more people.

Think about this. We are no different, in some aspects, then the rest of the world. We have civil unrest as does Iraq. We have fighting in the streets, as does most of your third world countries. We have homeless and starving. All this is only on a different scale and more hidden than the worlds problems. Why sensationalize their problems and run to help them when we have the same thing here and minimal efforts are being made to help our own. I agree with, I think Todd said, shut down the borders, bring everyone home and fight for our own cause and country first. Things really are not far from becoming what we see on the news evrynight overseas. The only difference is we are lacking the guerilla warfare tactics so to speak of the fighting.

I am glad to see you post a resume, or reminder of your past community involvement Ralph. Some of the people on the forum probably don't make the connections that are so heartedly deserving of praise and gratitude.
The only one I see standing in your footprints now, is Larry Tanoury Jr. He reminds me of you, and your faithful dedication to the city we love. I am glad that someone has stepped forward to fill the shoes that you walked the neighborhoods in, with true conviction and love for the people of Utica and Cornhill in particular.
You were beaten down, because you were not part of the political machine, and did not subscribe to the crooked crap of funneling money away from the neighborhoods and into the pockets of those in City Hall. I would almost wager that you were defeated by political favors and campaign money, and not by your opponents sincerity, or a productive platform.
Utica will feel the loss when you move. You will always be remembered by some, and that is a reward that should reign strong in your heart, not the defeat in a politically rotten election. Your opponent defeated you with promises to the poor and the black community, that he has never made much of an attempt to fulfill or live up to.
Antagonism isn't a productive tool, to bring unity and resolution of problems to our city. Inflaming and pouring salt in wounds will not make the neighbors more tolerant of each other, or united in a campaign to save our streets from crime and decay.
You will always have my respect, and gratitude for the both the things you DID accomplish and the things you ATTEMPTED to accomplish. Your true potential was never realized or known by the citizens, and is now lost, as you plan your move.

Poo......I don't worry about it much.
Frank, I won't write any more Letters to the Editor until I leave here, and that will be my"good-bye". That was how I got into the mess I was in to begin with!!!
I have found that in order to try and make a difference you have to immerse yourself into it; "walk the walk" and live it every single day. After a while it becomes all encompassing, almost like an addiction. It was (and still is) very hard to get up one day and say "I'm not doing this anymore, you're all on your own." But I have a life I need to live at home, not on the street, in Council chambers, or in some meeting with people who only there to "pose".
I know that when we move I will probably wind up involved in the community where I live, but the world is a bit different down there. Still a lot of "old school" values do prevail.
Clipper, I appreciate the kudos. Maybe I cannot see what impact I had, maybe I am not looking.......and truthfully, maybe I no longer care. My kids, wife and myself know what I did, and that is all that is important to me. I will leave my oldest son here, who is a Fireman with a big heart. Hopefully he will carry on and make a name for himself.
Me.......I would rather fade away than I would become a yappy old crackpot like some of the kooks around here!!! ;D

Sorry, but Bill Phillips is totally useless in my book. Every time there is a proposal brought to the common council that would only improve his area and help protect the "good people" in his area, he is the one who votes against all with the same lame reasons about upsetting some of his constituents, but yet not one of those constituents call the proper city departments to put in their own complaint or worries. I'm beginning to wonder just who Phillips is listening to in his area. If that cross for Tom Lindsey bothers some people, oh well, they'll just have to get over it. Tom's death should have bothered them much more then that and they in that area should want to keep that memory alive. Tom was there to protect them and died doing just that. How the hell would anyone not want to honor the man who gave his life for all of them? As far as I'm concerned that is where Tom took a bullet and that is where that cross honoring him should be. My sons at this moment are in Washington taking part in the ceremony honoring our fallen Officers, on behalf of their brother-in-blue, Tom Lindsey, and I really don't want to hear this shit about who in Cornhill is upset about a simple cross. Wonder how many in Cornhill took the trip to show their appreciate and respect for Tom? Someone give me a count and then I might listen to any argument why the cross should be removed.

With me, there is no luck involved. I rely simply on skill.
