This is what I posted in response on the OD: It should stay there, it should remind them, and it should bother them.
They need to remember that this is their neighborhood, and that one man gave his life to protect it.
Part of the problem with inner city crime is that people forget...they become complacent and ignore the goings on that contribute to the downfall of the community-at-large there.
Maybe if they see this everyday they will realize the sacrifice that was made for them and step forward to help remove the blight that is affecting their community.
Phillips is a "lame duck", and lame in more ways than one! He should keep his trap shut. The audacity of his comments are out of sight!!!!
The people down there need to see this every single day, they need to rememeber what took place just outside their own doorstep.
Maybe then they will realize that you just can't shut the blinds and make it all go away, that tomorrow everything will be all warm and fuzzy again..............till the next time.

Ralph, your words are important and I'm glad you shared them on the OD comments section.
However, Phillips is doing what he is supposed to do -- represent the concerns of his constituents. And for some of them, the memorial is a painful reminder and raises concerns that it will stir more anger and violence.
Personally, I disagree with them and strongly support the placement of the memorial at the site of Officer Lindsey's murder. And I also hope that in the representative republic in which we live, the outcome of this public discourse will be that the memorial stays. But people are free to voice their objections.

Bill is a fool and to stupid to be a Sharpton..He is where he is behind bars most of the day the problem is he should be wearing green dickies not a blue uniform, he is a disgrace to any member of law enforcement.

How come none of these so called concerns from his constituents are never taken further than him? All the people their are to call it is always him. I wonder if people really complain the way he says they do. I think his pot-stirring Al Sharpton antics is what breeds more anger and violence.
The people want this to go away like turning a light switch on or off. It doesn't work that way. A terrible tragedy like this will never go away, and shouldn't. Shame on the people and the City Officials to even entertain this bull crap.
It is the City's property. I find the crap all over the other property owners to offensive but they continue to do it. Who are they to tell the City what to do with their property when most of them cant take care of their own.
I agree with Ralph 100% very well stated.

Well they removed my comment from the "discussion" for some odd reason. But that's OK, I posted it again anyways! ;D
Frank, Remember that had the vote been different, these would have been my constituents instead of his. I have talked with them time & time again, both during my run for office as well as when I was working in the community.
I never heard some of this crap that he seems to come up with, and I heard a lot of stuff.
If he was as concerned about the neighborhoods as he claims to be, maybe it would be nice to see him in it doing something every now and then instead of only hearing about his supposed exploits in the OD.
I have heard more in this last term of his than ever before, and it is all in this vein of stirring the pot. He has nothing to win or lose next time so he is letting it all hang out I guess.

Let's try it again, darn old age quivering!
The mistake youmade was you didn't include what you said additionally on this thread!
OD is getting stranger these days. They ask you for your opinion and they either remove it or edit it down to looking like a jerk. They did that to my view point input Friday.

Keep putting it up Ralph. If I see it nuked again, I'll repeat it for you.
You're right, Ralph. It shoulda been you. Pot-stirring and grandstanding (Vescera) just don't feed the bulldog.

I agree with Ralph and I was thinking that all along. What if they renamed the street.....are they going to move off it or not ravel down it? Ignorance, I say and Philips is a disgrace to law enforcement regardless of who he is trying to represent. I wear the blue wrist band that UPD had made in honor of Tom everyday 24/7/365. Same as I wear a memorial bar for Joe Corr on my uniform. Even if I did not have these I would never forget. It is my way of honoring these heroes in my own way and doing what I can to keep their memory and service alive.
I say, let the memorial stand and stand tall!!!!!!!

Thank you for your input on the OD Frank, I appreciate it.
I was going to add something earlier, but I was just plain too pissed to bother.
I did go in and add this though a little after mid-night.
"Part of the problem with inner city crime is that people forget...they become complacent and ignore the goings on that contribute to the downfall of the community-at-large there."
How do I know?
I grew up, live and work here in Cornhill…..most of my entire life. A good portion of it in the community, some of it as a DOJ Program Coordinator, some as the President of Faith Furniture. As Frankcor pointed out I also ran for Council in the 5th District.
Had the vote been different, they would have been my constituents instead of Bill’s. I campaigned tirelessly through the neighborhoods and never heard people voice the opinions to me that seem to be heard now. Not even when I was working as a facilitator for the neighborhood associations in Utica did I hear stuff like that.
I don’t speak out of arrogance, but out of experience. People forget, people ignore…….it’s called apathy, and I have and continue to see it ever present in the Community. “picking scabs”…..they need to be picked, people need to be reminded, need to stand up for themselves so it cannot happen again. I watch it every day.
Let it go and it will continue to grow and fester while the “good people” stay inside, afraid to come out and enjoy the freedoms that belong to them. Instead letting criminals determine their activities and where and when they can do what they want…..if it’s OK with the “hoodies”.
People need to be reminded. They need to remember. God help them if they forget.
I wonder how long it will stay there, but I really don't care. Some people just don't "get it".

Ralph,
I agree 100% with you and could not have said it better myself. I don't know if this would be the same thing but that is also how I feel about 9/11. Sometimes I wish they would replay the tragedy that struck our Country, so people will not forget, or play all the songs that were written during this horrific crime against the US.
We all say we will never forget. But have we already? Is it in the past? Something we don't want to talk about or bring up in a conversation? This should not only be never forgotten but as you stated, etched in our minds forever.
This should still make every American pissed off to hear or see. I mean really pissed off. I don't think this will be the last of it either. We are in as much danger today as yesterday with our Airport Security and our borders.
C'mon America, lets wake up and stop worrying about everybody else and start worrying about ourselves.

Yep......and while our communities are being plundered by the hoods, we're worrying about being able to feed folks in Myanmar.
