Working together in this way is nothing new. We did it with Weed & Seed and then again in the same cars with project IMPACT.
I don't think their conduct is any better or worse than any other agencies. You also have to take into consideration the scum that UPD has to dig through every day to appreciate some of the reasons why they act the way they do at times.

Todd - I'm sure there are many "stories" re. State Troopers =BUT= all I can do is base my "opinion" on my personal experience with them. I have never been on the bad side of having a State Trooper arrest me for a criminal act, so I can't judge how they behave in those situations.
But, I do know that anytime I ever had to call them and ask for their help in resolving a matter, they always responded and solved the matter in a highly professional manner. Even the couple of times they pulled me over for a traffic violation and let me go with only a warning - LOL!

Clipper, the requirements for NYS Troopers are much more stringent than the UPD's, both on the educational and fitness levels. Unless you have already either served in the military or have gone through police training, you have to have a minimum of 30 college credit hours in the LE or Criminal Justice field. 99% of those that apply from the "inner city" don't even get past the original application process. .................................................................................... Once again, Ralph, thank you for your intelligent post based on facts.

Besides the Weed and Seed project Impact they also currently have the Oneida County Drug Task Force and the Sex Abuse Task Force. The Task Forces are made up of investigators from Rome Police Department, Oneida County Sheriffs Department, New Hartord Police Department Utica Police Department. The Sex Abuse Task Force also has a State Trooper. The SWAT teams from the various agenices also work in conjunction with each other to assist in executing warrants.

I fully realize that fact Ralph. I have a stepson that is a trooper. I would assume that with the stringent requirements, 99% of recruits from ANYWHERE don't make the grade. Their training is like a military boot camp.
I just find it amusing that one could generalize that anyone south of the railroad tracks and north of the parkway is too stupid to qualify for state police training.
When one becomes too old to care for themselves, they may find one of those "stupid" people caring for them in a nursing home, for minimum wage, because one of their "highly intelligent" relatives doesn't want to bother with them.
No personal jab at any individual, just my usual head shaking at the "look down your nose" attitude toward a whole class of people, living in a wide area. I guess Bobbbiez's kids did alright for "stupid inner city kids".

Clipper - YOU are showing your ignorance now. When are you going to learn how to post messages WITHOUT the use of insults or sarcastic remarks?
Since when does an administrator of a Forum become Judge, Jury and Executioner?
YOU used the word"stupid" - not me!
As far as your remark goes about a nursing home - if that remark was meant for me, my children AND grandchildren have already been arguing over who is going to "take care" of me if and when that time ever comes. YOU will end up in a nursing home before I do.

Simply go back and read! NO PERSONAL JAB AT ANYONE! Simply shaking my head at the usual! If you are guilty of being the usual look down one's nose attitude, then I guess YOU take it personal, not that I pointed it. Stop and read before you push the send button and you will not open yourself to criticism.
The nursing home comparison, was that those " inner city people" hold the low paying, undesirable jobs, and ANYONE who looks down on them, may find themselves in THEIR care when they grow old. Myself, included.
Ignorance can be construed as posting without documentation of fact, and sarcasm can be construed as pointing out that ignorance. I won't beleaguer the point. As long as people make generalizations about whole classes or populations without qualification, I will continue to protest the generalization.
There IS a site where that kind of thinking is welcomed. They, for the amazing price of only $35 a year will welcome you onto a chat forum that discusses all the beliefs close to your heart. They look down on blacks, jews, gays, mexicans, and others, with a general disdain. They may even open a new category for poor or underprivileged and "inner city" people. Just google Knights of the USA, and there is a place to sign up, using a credit card.
Hell, if ya go there, there will be absolutely NO possibility that I will refute any of your postings. There is probably even a craft section to learn noose making and cross building.
It is going to be a bitch, when some folks get to the pearly gates, only to find St Peter to be a black jew, wearing baggy pants, a baseball cap turned sideways, munching on a chicken leg purchased with food stamps. I hope ya don't get whiplash when he trips the trap door.
MY LAST POST on the subject, so you can have the last word. I am not into starting a new battle. Just pointing out a flawed viewpoint.
Have a good day!

Guess what, Clipper - Your obnoxious insults and "dry drunk" attitude is not worth reading and your snide remarks directed at me have finally made me make the decision to leave your Board.
There are plenty of other Forums and Message Boards out there and a few that I'm already a member of. I don't need to put up with your obnoxious attitude that whenever I post a comment about anything, your "interpretation" ALWAYS results in your snide remarks.
Go pull your obnoxious, ignorant attitude with others - I don't need your type in my life now or in the future. IMO, everything I've been told about you has proven to be true.
To the other posters here that I consider my friends, I'm sorry to be leaving but at this stage in my life I simply don't need to listen to Clippers insults anymore. You can all put up with him and play his silly "hollier than art" games he plays.

I am sorry that you can't take criticism, or any opposing opinion. You invite opposition when you make statements that focus on looking down on others.
I guess it is inevitable that we would come to this, as you continue to make opinionated statements and then cannot take the receipts. "Dry drunk" is a term used in AA. Have ya been there and done that?? I am a "recovering alcoholic" not a "dry drunk". So far my recovery has gone well, since 1976. I also have a recovering addict in my family. He is doing fine. Are the addicts in your family recovering or still using?
Thelma, I simply point out that when one lives in a glass house, they should not throw stones. I guess I might be conceived as self righteous, but living in your life, and throwing stones at others is pure hypocrisy in MY opinion, and I emphasize MY OPINION, not that of anyone else, as I can't speak for others. I guess it is IMO as you say.
Having an opponent on a forum, is no reason to leave. I have to say, I have yet to find a forum where everyone agreed with my opinions. It would get real boring real fast. I don't make posts to be mean spirited, as much as you seem to think. I make posts to point out points that I disagree with, such as the idea that there are NO recruits in the inner city that would qualify for the state police.
Kind of a silly narrow minded observation isn't it? Is that reason to be so indignantly insulted and hurt? Ya now what would have brought it all to a halt? A simple correction, that maybe you meant MANY instead of ANY.
I have taken YOUR posts with a grain of salt for quite some time, and let alot of it go in one ear and out the other. If you can't take me with a grain of salt and consider the relationship we have, then I guess you are making the right decision in leaving.
I think that one of the things that sticks in your craw, is the name at the top. I have said it many times and I will say it again. It is not MY forum, it is ours. I don't misuse my admin authority, but I do have the right to an opinion as a member. Just remember that you are not leaving MY forum as you call it. You are leaving a forum where you have many friends and supporters because you don't like me, or my posts.
It's your decision to make, but if you believe my admin status is being misused, please before going, point out an admin action that I have taken that is not proper.

I have to agree with Clipper. Thelma, it is a bit harsh to post that there are no recruits in the inner city that would qualify for the State Police. I actually know of at least one Trooper who is from the "inner" city of Utica.

Hmmm. I just reread your last post Thelma. Why is it that I am not surprised that after our falling out, you most likely went out on a dirt digging expedition to justify your opinion that I am a real prick. Well, you are right. I AM a real prick, and I have no patience for ignorant frustrated hate mongering women. IMO you fit the bill. Whatever gossip mongering gasbag you had pastry and tea with, they may have been right, but I have nothing to be ashamed of. Unless YOU have nothing in your family closet, that you would not like discussed on here, don't go casting aspersions and throwing about innuendos.
If you want to leave the forum, there is a place when you click on modify your profile. Scroll all the way down, and there is a place to "delete account"..... To do so would be a little drastic, but it is your option.
I am far from Holier than thou. I have basically told my life story on here over the life of the forums. It sure as hell doesn't qualify for "holy" or for sainthood. Ya see, my "horrible past" is in the past. Some of the horrors of my past were caused by irritating pains in the ass women, so I don't have this undying love for liberated broads that have "survived". You mistakenly seem to lump me with your old man, because I was a drinker. I was a drinker, but never an abuser. Big difference.
You don't need to leave the forum. I guess if ya don't want my criticism, you will probably have to be more careful about making unfounded insinuations about things you have no basis in fact in speaking about.
It is a discussion forum. Your posts are not taken as gospel, and if ya don't want to discuss the issue, don't post about it.

I don’t want to keep banging on this point, but there has been a lot of good that has come out of the inner city in general and Cornhill in particular. My oldest son is a Fireman here in Utica. He’ll have been on the job a year this May 28th. And while I don’t like tooting anyone’s horn; Russ himself, as well as several others, have told me he is the most promising recruit they have had in years. He met or broke all the records established at the Academy to date. My other son is with Met Life but has already completed a year and a half at Johnson & Wales in R.I. and is going back to become a Chef with a degree. My oldest daughter will be going into her last year at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh with a degree in Videography and looks forward to possibly starting an internship with National Geographic. My next daughter is a manager of a Sadie’s Photography studio in Florida. The youngest daughter is making a decent buck living in Pittsburgh as well.
All of them family orientated, fairly successful so far, and all raised in the hood. They saw the drug dealers, shootings across the street, prostitutes, garbage, etc. Including my struggle in the community as well.
I cannot begin to list the people that are living here that continue to work and live in “da hood”, that provide well for their families and are raising them with the traditional values that we all try and adhere to. There is good in the inner city, whether it be the Cornhill or West Utica area.
It’s just sad that a few bad apples make it hard for the good ones to shine through. 2% of the people are committing 99% of the crime here………and are getting all the press for it.
Despite whatever one wants to believe or ignore ……North Utica, South Utica, whatever…..they all have bad apples, some of the biggest drug busts in the city’s history have occurred outside of the traditional boundaries of what one considers “da hood”. That and the fact that a damn good percentage of the drug & prostitution customers come from outside of the inner city and more from the surrounding communities!!!
I will agree with anyone that a lot of people don’t want to be here. I only want $30K for my house, if it was in North or South Utica I could easily get $100K for it……even in the shape it’s in. The yard alone would command that price!
But as my best friend always said………..”it is what it is”.
Thelma, While I do not take away from you the fact that you have succeeded where other women in your position have either failed or become slaves to their husbands and punching bags for their pleasure. Nor will I diminish your “success” in raising your granddaughters, but, you have accomplished nothing out of the ordinary. You pulled yourself up out of the hole and carried on. It happens every day to more than you can imagine.
I do not relish the idea that you are leaving and would rather have you reconsider. "Taking your ball and going home" doesn’t show the attitude I would have expected. But if that is your wish, then I wish you well. While I do not condone your leaving for a squabble, neither do I appreciate the constant demeaning of those that live where I have lived and fought so long and so hard for. While I am still here, I will continue to fight behind the scenes…..much as Bobbbiez does in the open. My life is our home, our home is our castle, and I will gladly kill the first person to enter it uninvited….or die trying,
Remember that there are those of us that are fighting not just to rid ourselves of the problems that live next door to us, but to keep it from appearing one day on your doorstep as well.

Well said, Ralph. Information leads to understanding. Understanding leads to tolerance. Tolerance leads to acceptance. Somewhere along the line, willingness to make a difference develops. Thank you for providing your perspective.
