Multi-agency drug raid nets 12 arrests

Police arrested 12 people Monday, ranging in age from 16 to 57, after serving search warrants in Utica, New Hartford and Albany and seizing drugs, guns and three cars, the Oneida County Drug Enforcement Task Force announced.
More than 150 officers from several agencies served “no-knock” search warrants at 11 locations in Utica, two in New Hartford and one in Albany, following a sixmonth investigation by the task force, Utica and state police, the FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms into the sale and distribution of cocaine and heroin in and around Utica by an organized criminal gang, officials said.
Among items seized were 15.5 ounces of cocaine, 90 pre-measured doses of heroin, six handguns – two reported stolen – $6,700 in cash, and a bulletproof vest.
Arrested were Utica residents Kiara O. Smith, 32; Jahnaesha Holliman, 16; Eileen M. Austin, 57; Gary L. Austin Sr., 61; Gary L. Austin Jr.; Duchane D. Boyd, 26; Rahmel M. Weathers; Tahiem R. Kyser, 35; Shannon Patterson, 26; and Kenna L. Isaac, 39; as well as Cornell Weathers, 26, of Albany; and William S. Brooks, 22, of Syracuse.
Charges included felony criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminally using drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a firearm.
More arrests and charges are possible as the investigation continues, officials said.
