Hmmm. I ran Ccleaner scan as I usually do every couple of days. Now for some reason I can't bring up the firefox browser by clicking on the icon on my screen. Any idea what may be going on? Anyone else having a problem with firefox this morning?
I am not getting an error message or anything. I simply shows the little blue circle thingy whirling and then it disappears and nothing happens.

I found this: Also you should not use CCleaner to clean up anything Firefox releated as it can potentially cause problems and Firefox can clean up its own files just fine. Modified January 28, 2014 7:20:45 PM PST by James I am saying Firefox can clear its own cookies, cache, browsing and download history and such in Tools->Options->Privacy and History->Clear recent history box (Ctrl+Shift+Del). It has been posted here and on the independent mozillazine forums of users who had issues with some things in Firefox after using CCleaner to clean Firefox related things. I found it here:https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/984740 ANd I found this. Click&Clean for Firefox Click&Clean is yet another Firefox extension that requires you to download another program--CCleaner--first. The good news is that both this extension and CCleaner are free and worked perfectly for us. CCleaner is a program that rids your computers of unwanted files, including temporary files, cookies, and browsing history. Click&Clean is basically an extension that allows you to access CCleaner directly from your Firefox toolbar. It adds only a single button, so it won't clutter your browser window. Clicking it opened the CCleaner interface immediately. If you're a Firefox user, and a fan of CCleaner, we highly recommend this free extension for easy access. download.cnet.com/Click-Clean-for-Firefox/3000-11745_4-10534611.html

Thanks Alan. I have never had a problem with Ccleaner before and I have had it for a few years now. I managed to get my firefox homepage and tool bar back by powering down and restarting the computer. Everything has been fine since. Who knows what caused that little fart in service. Is it you that says computers are the work of the devil? Someone on here used to say that quite often when they had a glitch or problem with their computer. Thanks again for the reply and the link.
Has it warmed up up there? It is hot and humid here again today. It was 82 when I came in from outside. I have spent the last few days preparing the flower beds and a limited space for a small vegetable garden (4 hills of cukes, and space for 6 tomato plants and a dozen lady bell pepper plants.) Lots of work for this tired and crippled old body, haha. I spread 600 lbs of potting soil in 40 lb bags, added vermiculite and lightly tilled it in. The damned clay here gets so hard that it is like trying to rototill cement. Over the last few years I have managed to loosen the soil in the planting beds to a depth of about a foot by adding compost, potting soil, and even some sand. Today I planted two dozen begonias and moved some iris tubers and daffodils to a new bed. Tomorrow I will be off to the nursery again for the veggie plants and possibly some shrubs. I love the outside and gardening, but over the last couple of years I have been getting more and more crippled up with my knees and hadn't put any veggies in for at least 3 or 4 years.
Incidentally, I reserved Windows 10 for this desk top PC. I will be getting my laptop out and loading the updates in preparation for vacation in July and I will do the same for that machine too. This has Windows 8 and the laptop is Windows 7. have a good day my friend.

There's a good lesson of the value of a "power on reset." When all else fails, power down and and back up again. Windows will find anomalies, such as a missing link between a desktop icon and the program, and often fix them.

A week in the high 80's then a week of rain and temps in the 50's and 60's. It is 64 now.

Sounds like maybe all you need is a simple reboot Clipper. I have never had any problems with Firefox & CCleaner, and I use it every day when I log off for the night.
If anything, you may have to uninstall it and then reinstall it.....worse case scenario.

Haven't had any problem since. I also have used Ccleaner without problem for quite some time Ralph. I think it was you that suggested it several years ago.

The latest version of CCleaner (5.06.5219) has addressed some of the problems with Firefox.

Yep! I put it on the first PC you brought me. Ralph on the left side of the cleaner start page where items are checked can any of the unchecked items be checked to enable CCleaner to do an even better job.

I have most of the items on the left side checked Alan, but I have left the bottom topics alone that fall under the "Advanced" title. It seems to work well for me. I would not get into anything advanced without guidance from someone that knows a hell of a lot more about computers than I do, haha.

I wouldn't go there Alan, some of that stuff doesn't need to be "cleaned". It does a fine job all on its own. The only thing I ever checked extra was the "auto complete forms" box. Other than that I wouldn't touch it.

"I shall not touch it. By golly."
You are a smart man Alan. At one point several years ago I decided to do a similar cleanup and ended up deleting some sort of drivers by accident. It cost me a few bucks to have my local computer pro shop put me back in business. Ever since then I seldom do anything without consulting with Computer Pro's (my local shop) or with Ralph or others on here that are knowledgeable about the inner workings of this fickle and spiteful machine parked here on my desk. LOL
