UTICA — The victim in Tuesday’s shooting on Seymour Avenue has been accused of possessing heroin and synthetic marijuana while recovering in the hospital, Utica police said.
Vincent Wynder, 33, of Rutger Street, Utica, was charged with misdemeanor seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
Officers found nine envelopes of heroin and a bag of ‘Blue Haze’, which is believed to be synthetic marijuana, police Lt. Steven Hauck said.
When investigators spoke with Wynder Tuesday, he gave details not consistent with witness accounts, Hauck said. When police spoke with him again Wednesday, he gave the same story.
It couldn’t be said “one way or another” whether the shooting was connected to drugs, he said.
“Obviously our best witness is the victim, and what we’re being given so far doesn’t match up with what the rest of the neighborhood is telling us,” Hauck said.
Wynder was shot in both legs at about 3 p.m. Tuesday on the 1600 block of Seymour Avenue.
