I got a computer ad for 'Pro PC Cleaner' and it scans my computer at random times and tells me I have a certain number of errors that need to be fixed. The number of errors changes every time it scans and I'm up to over 500 errors now. I wonder if this program is on the up-and-up or if it will damage my computer if I let it "fix" the errors.
I haven't purchased it yet. Does anyone have any comments, pro or con, about this software?

I keep getting a pop up periodically for that same program. Having just spent the money to have Astromenda virus removed from both my computers, due to clicking on just such a pop up, telling me I needed to update my Adobe program, I simply don't click on ANY of those sort of ads any more. I guess I would do some research on line, google it or whatever, and see what reputable websites or other people have to say about it before I would purchase the software package.
I have become quite paranoid about suspicious downloads. $90 and plenty of frustration later, haha.

Just my opinion & I won't be at all put off by someone else having a different experience or opinion. I have not used PC Cleaner but it has a rather poor reputation on some of the help sites I have visited. I don't intend ever to buy anything from a pop-up ad both because I find the concept and practice annoying and because most of the stuff advertised that way seems pretty sketchy.
When I want to download and install utility programs I usually start at a site named ninite.com . I fint it especially useful when setting up a new computer because it has most of the stuff I want and can just click to select the things I want (browsers, cleaners, anti-malware) and then click to install all at once. (My son uses the same site to do auto updates on the computers he maintains at one of the Michigan State U labs because he doesn't trust individual assistants and grad students but I've never gone the auto update route.)
I also use the Revo Uninstaller from the same site to remove programs.

Thanks for the info on those two reliable sites Clarence. I wrote them down so that I can use those sites and be assured that I am not downloading any viruses and trash.

I also do not want to offend anyone with this posting.

CB, I downloaded ninite and it seems to be working, but I got a message saying it couldn't install "Essentials" on my XP machine. What does Essentials do?

I never tried that one, it includes Photo Gallery, Windows Live Writer, One Drive, Movie Maker & Windows Live Mail. The MS site lists requirements as Win 7 or Win 8. There may not be an XP version but to my mind none of those are really "essential" because other programs cover those functions.

Doesn't CCleaner do the same thing? And it is free.

CB:Glad i asked. You're right. They're not at all essential and I wouldn't want them anyway.
Alan: I have CCLeaner installed here and it didn't include anything but CCleaner.

Alan, I think CCleaner does a pretty good job of cleaning out accumulated clutter & I use it. The program Kit got an ad for purports to do more but I don't trust it.

I deleted the Pro PC Cleaner promotion. It was like a used car salesman... too pushy, which either means the company is hurting for sales, or there's something about the product they're not telling me.
I, too, have CCleaner and use it, so I'll just be happy with that.

PC Pro Cleaner is NOT something you want on your PC.
Kit, make sure you do a good virus scan to make sure you have gotten rid of the crap it might have left behind.
