Utica, N.Y. (WKTV) - Police have now released the names of the suspect and the four men who were shot early this morning just outside of a Utica nightclub.
The shooting took place at around 2:15 a.m. Saturday outside Level Bar and Lounge.
Officials say Utica Police Officer John Scaramuzzino and a New York State Trooper were working a saturation patrol under Operation GIVE and were in the Elizabeth St/ Burnett St area early Saturday when they heard several shots being fired from around the corner.
The two officers headed in the direction of the shots, and found approximately 100 people fleeing the nightclub, and observed a man firing a gun.
Police officials said Scaramuzzino engaged the suspect, fired his weapon, and struck the suspect.
Officers then learned that there were four gunshot victims in and around the bar.
31-year-old Adrian Liggins of Gold Street and 22-year-old Memphis Delacruz of North Oscar Street both remain in serious condition at Syracuse Hospital.
23-year-old Rodney D. Pearson of Howard Avenue is in stable condition, while 33-year-old Ezra McLean of Howe Street was treated and released.
The suspect has been identified as Calvin A. Dennis of Manhattan. He was shot several times and remains in critical condition at Syracuse Hospital.
Officer John Scaramuzzino has been with the Utica Police for seven years, and has been put on administrative leave, which is standard procedure after any police shooting.
No word on how long he'll remain on leave.
Notice the suspect was from Manhatten. I wonder if he knew those he targeted for shooting. Hopefully Officer John Scaramuzzino will be ok. My prayers for him.
