www.wktv.com/news/local/18057744.htmlAnother great program that should be implemented into the Academy's and then a refresher course done every year or so. The Police definitely need more tools to help them perform their duties in a safe manner without having to use deadly force. Although I personally have no problem with deadly force when an Officer's life or safety is jeopardized. But to be able to have a few more choices at their disposal is great win win for everyone involved. I wish them all the luck with this program and hope it will continue as part of every Officer's training.

Geez, does that mean Ralph and I will have to go back to the Citizen's Police Academy at MVCC if they taught us wrong or not enough? Oh no Ralph, can you see me with that baton again?

Oh God, I can only imagine Bobbbiez!!!!
I agree Todd, this should have been done long ago. Combat pistol craft and techniques should be taught and refreshed every year.
Sooner or later they're going to run up against someone that actually knows how to handle a weapon.

I hate to rain on anybody's parade, but out of 2000 words in that article on WKTV, not one of them tell what force-on-force training is. It seems like it was compiled from 6 or 7 police and state agency press releases.
The closest they came to describing it was that it uses simulated weapons and that students will "learn how to develop training scenarios that are based on situations that officers are likely to encounter on the job, in their communities." Assuming that will take an hour lecture, what do they do for the remaining of the five days?
The rest of the article talks about how one guy is please about the grant, another is pleased about the school, another is pleased about the course ... blah blah blah blah blah blah. And of course they had to spend a paragraph to drag the memory of fallen officers into it to score some additional justification. It really burns my ass when politicians and bureaucrats use the sacrifice made by best of our society to further their own political goals.
Now, I like the sound of force-on-force training. I hope it saves lives. But when I read a news article about it, I'd like to learn about what it is and what the hell it has to do with Homeland Security.
grumble ... grumble ... grumble

Shit Frank, they already have that training. Ralph and I went through that during our classes at the Citizen's Police Academy a few years ago.

Frank you are right about the article and lack of info. Did WKTV hire OD reporters? Anywho, in that whole article they did not mention the one academy in its' own back yard, MV Police Academy at MVCC. I guess we just host it but don't get anything out of it LOL! I am not familiar with this type of training either. I do know that in about a month I will be getting training to be issued a tazer!! Can't wait hehehehehehe!!!!!! Yes I will be taking a hit with it so I will know what it is like. Honestly, I would rather know what it is like so I know how it will effect someone when I use it.(you notice I said WHEN I use it? hehehehee)

wcup, you'll always have my respect, regardless of whether or not your taser is charged up But I beg of you, never allow Bobbbiez to hold it, not even for a moment.

wcup102, that training scenarios using simulated weapons, (9mm), is at the Griffiss Base in Rome. We were taken there by Officers of the UPD and went through the scenarios as candidates of the Citizen's Police Academy at the Police Academy at MVCC. Did you say you never heard of it or am I mistaken?

No Bobbbiez, what we did up to Griff at the NEADS site is just simulation.
FOF training is actual hands on combat pistolcraft using new technology airsoft pistols that act every bit like the real ones. It's more like extreme paintball on a whole new level!
Instead of having an instructor run you through a computer simulation, you have the instructor(s) shooting back at you!!!
Makes for a completely different ball game.
