Utica man: Helping officer in distress 'not that big of a deal'
Jack Carter wasn’t expecting to become a hero Thursday.
The 47-year-old had been outside early that morning talking to neighbors on his “quiet” block of Lexington Place, but had gone inside as it began to rain.
Meanwhile, outside, Utica police Officer John Lomonico was attempting to arrest a suspect police say he caught breaking into a home down the street. It wasn’t going well for Lomonico.
“I was just taking my meds for back pain and heard a scuffle in the driveway,” Carter said. “I looked out my front door and saw them in front of the house, tussling.”
That’s when Carter and another man, Stanley Markis of Etters, Pennsylvania, stepped in.
