This story is just amazing. I wonder if the USA should do the same. Might just solve the drug problem. Muslums can get things done right. www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=512815&in_page_id=1770&ito=1490A father-of-three who was found with a microscopic speck of cannabis stuck to the bottom of one of his shoes has been sentenced to four years in a Dubai prison A search by customs officials uncovered a speck of cannabis weighing just 0.003g - so small it would be invisible to the naked eye and weighing less than a grain of sugar - on the tread of one of his shoes. Dubai International Airport is a major hub for the Middle East and thousands of Britons pass through it every year to holiday in the glamorous beach and shopping haven. But many of those tourists and business travellers are likely to be unaware of the strict zero-tolerance drugs policy in the UAE. One man has even been jailed for possession of three poppy seeds left over from a bread roll he ate at Heathrow Airport. Painkiller codeine is also banned. If suspicious of a traveller, customs officials can use high-tech equipment to uncover even the slightest trace of drugs.

I'm not convinced. It would only further the black market drug trade.

A speck on his shoe? You have go to be kidding. You can get that by walking out of a public bathroom! Good Lord. And a poppy seeds from a bread roll? I eat poppy seed bagels all the time! Remind me to stay away from that country.

Is Dubai such a wealthy nation that they can afford to utilize mass-spectrometers in airport security? Unless there's some other way to detect such a small amount of a substance accurately, it feels like overkill to me and a waste of all the money we give them in exchange for petroleum.
This is why it is so easy for Al Queda to recruit terrorists. Living in such repressive states must stir up enormous jealousy of our superior culture and resentment for all the dollars we pour into their governments' coffers.
I suppose that Brit should be greatful they didn't cut off his right foot for using it to smuggle drugs into their country.

Dubai is very wealthy. From the oil and their other enterprises. Remember that soured port security deal a couple years ago? The U.S. wouldn't be the first ports they ran security for.

Someday I want to buy one of the lots on their new islands and live next door to Sting. I bet they don't check the bottom of Sting's shoes.
