I just ran across a very old bookmark and wanted to see if it still existed and does. Maybe someone would be interested in the content. It's for finding old recipes. Thought I'd share www.hungrybrowser.com/phaedrus/archives.htm

Thanks for the website, Chris. I've written to Phaedrus to see if he can find the recipe for the Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake that my mom used to make for my 2 brothers and myself when we were kids. She's been gone 54 years and we used to love it. I still have the 9x9 aluminum pan she made it in and would like to make that same cake for my 3 daughters. Am keeping my fingers crossed that he can find the same recipe.

www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/chocolate-mayonnaise-cakeThis is very similar to what my aunt Barb (Jim's sister) used to make when I was a kid. It was moist and delicious. She also used to make a chocolate cake that used a can of condensed tomato soup for moisture. Google chocolate mayonaise cake recipe and there are several listed.

Yes, there are many recipes for chocolate cake, but I'm looking for this specific one. Even as a child I remember Mom making it several times and hope to recognize the particular recipe when I see it.
Interesting that there's always been (and continues to be) a bitter war (?) between those who love Miracle Whip salad dressing and Hellmann's real mayonnaise. Personally, I opt for Hellmann's and do not allow a jar of Miracle Whip to enter my house ;o)

This house uses nothing but Hellman's also. We ate Miracle Whip as kids, and also sandwiches made with the sandwich spread that was made with salad dressing and pickle relish that came in small jars. I hate them both.

I contacted Phaedrus at the website Chris gave above, and he suggest a recipe which sounded just like the one my mom used 'way back when'. I made it the night before last and it tasted just like hers did, so I feel confident that when I make it again for my 3 daughters (who of course never met my mom) I'll be passing a little bit of my mom on to them.
