Another sad milestone... Emil Warchol who was a terrific keyboard player for various groups back in the 50s and 60s has passed away at age 66. I'd seen him a few times over the years but had lost track of him in recent times.
Does anyone remember the groups he played with?

My Girlfriend and I used to go and see the groups around town while I was recuperating from the accident with the Chessmen in '64. At that time I met Emil and we became friends. Later he became my lawyer then when he retired he left Whitesboro to teach law at Syracuse University.

John,
I remember Carl and The Dominoes... in fact, I think I took the photo you posted, but not the photo with them on the ladder.
I was trying to remember the group Emil played with before The Dominoes. I think he played Utica College quite a bit.

John, The first band Emil played with was called the Jivealings. Emil was 15at the time. The rest of us were 17 and 18. Emil played electric piano. Gary Flagg on guitar, Ted Crabas on guitar and sax and myself, Rod Supiro on drums. The time period was 1958 to 1960. In 1961 amd 1962 Emil played with Terry and the Renagades. The Renegades played Albany to Rochester and 3 happy summers at the Forest Hotel in Sylvan Beach. That band had Emil on electric piano, Terry Lutes on Guitar, Don Pautle on bass, Ted crabas on sax and guitar, Dominic Famularo on Trumpet and Rod Supiro on drums. I will try abd locate a picture of the renegades and post it. Emil and I have been friends over 50 years. He will be missed always.

Terry And The Renegades is the group I was trying to remember.
Gary Flagg was our guitar player (The Nitecaps) for a while in Ogdensburg right after he got out of the Air Force. He's been out in the Rochester area for quite some time and I was in contact with him a few months ago. He often used to speak of Don Pautke.
We did a summer at the Forest at the beach as well in the early 60s. That's when Johnny and Larry DePerno ran it. We played an hour and then a group, usually a group from Ithaca, took over and played for an hour while we relaxed, then we'd switch again and over and over all day and evening on Sundays. There were 3 big places then... The Forest, The Lakeshore across the way, and DiCastro's down the line a bit. Those were the good old days.

DiCastro's is the building where we had the reunion of bands this past summer.

Wasn't there a fourth place, sort of diagonal from the Forest, closer to the canal? I remember playing there one night, trying to figure out their organ. They didn't have a piano. I think the organ belonged to another group who appeared there regularly. I don't think the place was as popular as the other three.

I remember you from UFA Band days and when you lived on Hawthorne Ave and I lived on Melrose Ave. You were a couple of years ahead of me in school. I remember a few of the drummers that might have been in the band at the same time you were. Dick LaDue, Lenny Levine, Joe Trovotto , Tom Acey and Richard Evans. I found a record album that I believe you played drums on. I haven't seen it in years but seem to remember that it was Country Music. I hope you're successful finding a picture.

Had a pretty good size bar and dance hall.
