And if it's infrared (usually, I think,) there must be an "eye" on the TV somewhere to see the light coming from the remote. It may not be all that obvious, but find it and clean it, with a q-tip if necessary. And I wouldn't be too surprised to find a battery powered infrared pickup inside the TV. If the chip takes an odd voltage (compared to the rest of the circuitry), they would not put an extra power supply in the TV for it. Instead, they'd use a battery. I have them inside some of my more high tech radios and they last from 5 to ten years. I doubt if you'd want to try replacing it.

Alan I went to the feast every year when I lived there. Growing up it was on Mohawsk STreet where the Chapel is on corner of Jay and Mohawk (those were the days) St Anthony's use to just do their own feast. I thought it was at Mount Carmel now. (yeah...who hijacked this thread) Well the new remote worked once i programed it although the menu still doesn't come up. The instructions state in some cases the menu won't show up in the tv so I need to resort to the old remote I replaced. This morning when I turned on the tv it did not turn on immediately again. I guess it really might be the power button dying. In the mean time while on borrowed time I will be doing some shopping for a new one (tv that is) Kit when it first happened I bought new batteries thinking they might be stale. New batteries, new remotes and no luck. (I now own three and I'm guessing the one I had orig was good and didn't need replacement) Dave the light on my remote flashes red but the light on the tv is green when it turns on. Is that the infrared light you are talking about? Thanks Y'all
