When I first saw Judy Collins some 30 years ago she refused to do this song and several other favorites because she felt she could no longer measure up to things she had ewcorded a decade previous to that. I'm glad that in the last few years she has grown comfortable with her more mature voice.
And here is the original

Wonderful voice. Wonderful lady. I've been taken with her since she first came to public attention around 1967 or 68, I think. I played Both Sides Now, All My Priests and Since You Asked over and over. Their Celtic sound (to my ear) was so refreshing after The Jolly Green Giant, Flip Top Box by Dicky Dew and The Don'ts and Sonny and Cher's I Got You Babe.
Something was right about music in those years, before the "bankers" got involved, allowing only formulaic artists and music that was guaranteed to sell. One would come across original artists such as Judy and others like singer-troubadour James Taylor. They were unlike the rest of the mob on the Hit Parade, but just as popular.
Here is JT live with one of the best group of musicians he ever played with. Leland Sklar on bass (although I like today's Jimmy Johnson,) Bobby Mann on guitar, Larry Golding on keyboard (still there today). I do like today's drummer (often), Steve Gadd.
