UPD has opened a site on Google Plus. It looks great and one can only hope that they keep it cleaned up and free of inappropriate or unproductive comments. Personal opinions or observations pertaining to those arrested should be deleted. They serve no productive purpose whatsoever and are what brought about the controversy with the UPD Facebook page.
Hopefully the page will be kept free for the most part of public comment and will exclusively serve it's purpose as a crime fighting tool and informational site. Maybe they can post a hot link to Topix for the bigots and other lower forms of life to use to guide them "home" to the catbox of the internet.

plus.google.comYou simply have to go to google plus and then put Utica Police Dept in the search block. You have to have a google plus account. The comments on the old site all too often drifted to bigotry and offensive crap. Not becoming of a city sponsored site.

Well now signed up. I wonder if they will have a large following like with facebook. It is a little annoying to have to sign up for yet another web just to see what is going on. Now I will have even more spam to delete. All this junk mail. I heard evil people put all that stuff out there on the internets.

The comments were the issue but I still won't be going there. I don't have a facebook account and don't want one with Google and the NSA scandal makes me want one even less. I know they are gathering info from here also but I just don't like much of the whole concept.
I am not naive but and it serves some purpose but I just think this stuff has gotten out of hand and it is just not for me.

I had signed up on Google+ a year or so ago on the suggestions of a friend who had become Anti-Facebook. No one besides my Anti-Facebook friend, was on there, so after checking back a few times I lost interest.

I must be doing something wrong. When I click on the UPD page I keep getting the first page that tells about it purpose and welcomes people. If I click on the link in facebook I get an updated page. Crazy.

I haven't had any problem Alan. I go to my gmail account and select the option to open google plus. I put in my google plus password and it opens to a page that looks similar to the newsfeed on Facebook. Today the UPD has a posting about 3 retirements, posted at 4:30 this morning.
You have to include people that you know in your "circles" to see what they are doing as near as I can figure. I did find BZ on there, and a couple of others from here at the corner. I think that it simply takes getting used to. Basically all I care about is reading the UPD site without all the extraneous BS from the bigots and morons.
I still use facebook. I guess with the present state of affairs concerning privacy issues, and government invasion of your privacy it doesn't make much difference. It won't be long before the government is measuring your urine output and analyzing urine samples with sensors in your toilet.

I'm not fazed much with Google+ but I will stop by to see what's up on the UPD page every now and then.
The Gubberment has been listening in and analyzing a lot of this stuff for years. But despite this they still missed Benghazi and the Boston Bombers.
They can collect all the want, but analyzing it into useful information is another thing altogether. They don't have the manpower to listen to it all and the algorithms can't compensate for the fact that we're human.
Maybe if they tried applying an expanded chaos theorem application to it they might find themselves at the heart of it!!

I was just reading on the UPD Google Plus page. They already have over 1000 followers. That is great. It is nice being able to read about the pertinent law enforcement activity without the trashy comments and judgmental garbage from the racists and morons.
Had the UPD moderated the face book page a little better and dumped the inappropriate comments along with the people that insisted on continually posting their garbage, the page would not have needed to be taken down.
