Any of you folks have experience with a metal detector? I could use some practical tips. Needing more exercise, and, always interested in "buried treasure", I ordered a Garrett Ace 350 detector, primarily for use at the coast. No permit is required to scan the northern third of the Oregon coast beaches (except for Ft. Stevens state park). Don't expect to find anything left by Black Bart or Captain Kidd, however, scanning the beach after a holiday weekend should prove interesting. Probably end up with an extensive collection of pop can tabs and rusty nails. Actually, the state of the art for detectors pretty much lets you know what's under the sand, before you dig it up.

Dick, if you really want some experience in metal detecting come over to my homestead and help us find the metal posts designating our land line. Got a map to follow, just need to remark the posts. ;D

OK, Bobbie, it's a deal-but-you have to pay my air fair!! Lmao! Might be worth it since I can't find anyone to do it. They're all too busy or the job is too small for them. You know how that goes.
