Actually Alan, the show is about WEST VIRGINIA, not Kentucky. It is being billed as the "Redneck Jersey Shore."
People around here constantly make fun and jokes about the West Virginians too, but for the most part, those in the Southeastern portion of the state are hard working coal miners and hillside farmers. They live a a hard life, but they are far from the "dumb hillbilly" persona that is portrayed in this MTV series.
That part of the country is definitely pick up truck and gun rack country. Avid hunters and outdoor enthusiasts abound all throughout that area, some by choice and some by necessity. Most are very family oriented, church going, gentle souls.
Kathy and I used to travel with another couple to Bluefield West Virginia on Saturday nights to bowl in open no-tap bowling tournaments. Those folks were very friendly and fun to be with. The men that worked in the mines had biceps the size of my waist and were probably not someone that a person should anger, haha. I throw a 14 lb ball about 12-16 mph. One young lad up there used to throw a 16 lb ball between 20 and 25 mph, lol.

I thought that was being banned due to complaints. They still are airing it? and who actually watches all those dumb mindless shows.

It is all a little stupid. Heck, TV makes people from NYC and NJ out to be mobsters, white people from Mississippi to be racists, and Texans to be oil barons or cowboys. Stereotyping on television has been evident for decades and will continue to be so. Most of those reality shows on MTV and other stations like it are like a shooting star. They appear with a dazzling light and then fade and disappear in a very short time. I will probably watch it ONCE out of pure curiosity. I really don't see the attraction of such shows. Ozzie Osborne's personal life is not something that interests me, nor is anything to do with housewives from Atlanta or anywhere else. It is like the show that used to be on that followed John Gotti's family. Who the hell cares what his wife and kids were doing. Who would dedicate a half hour of their valuable time to watch a loudmouth Long Island bimbo and her wise ass punk kids live out a day in the life of a criminal's family? Kardashians? They are another disgusting family that I could care less about following through their f'ed up lives. I guess I am just getting old. I would rather watch National Geographic, Animal Planet, or Discovery Channel. We watch a lot of PBS also. Antique Road Show is a favorite. THAT is my kind of "reality tv."

I have gotten in Downton Abbey. The opener for the 3rd season was wonderful. I even went out an bought a tea pot and some Earl Gray Tea to brew the next time it is on. And some tea bisquits with lemon curd.
I would have loved to be alive back then. Of course I would most likely be the one who cleans the Kings potty but I would do a great job.
