I know we just did a thread on alternatives to Time Warner but last night my wife asked me with looking into Verizon FIOS (I think she looked at our most recent TW bill. I really don't want to visit their store. My impression is that their unhelpfulness is exceeded only by their lack of knowledge. On my last trip there I spent an hour getting incorrect information and then two months of phone calls to correct the billing error caused by that misinformation.
I went online this morning to investigate the details of the ad she saw on TV. I consider myself reasonably informed on the technology involved and reasonably adept at navigating web sites. After considerable time spent on the project, I find myself unsure of what is available in their bundles, what it's specs are & how much it would cost. I'm hoping someone has some real experience with them.
I'm pretty sure their internet offering is a DSL with download speeds of 1-3 Mbps in my area. That's called their Enhanced internet. Running Speedtest of my current hookup (TW through their modem, my router wireless to my notebook) I get 16-17 Mbps. Is that as much of a down grade as it seems? I have visions of waiting while the buffer fills enough to stream a song on YouTube and scheduling blocks of time to watch a TV program on-line.
The TV offering is a dish and I don't see any reference to local or network programming. Am I understanding all this correctly?
