In order to use a program called Echolink (a radio to PC program) I need to reconfigure ports and the firewall in my router. Here's the instruction from Echolink, which by the way comes from the following page: www.echolink.org/firewall_solutions.htm"EchoLink requires that your router or firewall allow inbound and outbound UDP to ports 5198 and 5199, and outbound TCP to port 5200. If you are using a home-network router, you will also need to configure the router to "forward" UDP ports 5198 and 5199 to the PC on which EchoLink is running.
This can be summarized as:
Allow UDP destination ports 5198-5199 between Internet and PC in both directions Allow TCP (source port any, destination port 5200) from PC to Internet" Any and all help will be appreciated. I don't even know how to get to the router. I suppose I first have to figure out its IP address. Thanks.

A really basic question: do you have the manual? I know I originally set mine up using the browser & an address from the book. I also know that if you asked me to do it today, I would have to look up both that address and my password. There is a reset on the back which will restore it to factory defaults. One other thing I learned the hard way, the default work group name is not the same in XP & Vista. That means if you are trying to set up something like sharing a printer you cannot just go with the defaults and worry about a name later.

I think the your internet provider can help with getting there. They should have the address to you router. I think that is what I did for some reason. then you enter the url into your browser. Once it brings you there you just click thru the prompts to change or update any info.

CB: I don't have a book for it. At least I don't remember the cable guy leaving one. But that was while we were moving in and and chaos reigned.
Chris: I don't know why I'm avoiding it, but yes, I should call the cable company. They will connect me to their tech ops and it'll all be over in 30 seconds. Probably. I just thought if I could figure out the ip number, i'd put that in the browser, get access via one of three sets of ID/passwords the cable guy left me (which is for which function, I don't remember) and see if I can figure out from there what to do.

Here's a nice link on port forwarding. Your Cable Tech should be able to provide you with all the info you need if not walk you through it himself. Though if it is "their" router they may grump a bit about it. www.wikihow.com/Set-up-Port-Forwarding-on-a-Router
