If you have 45 minutes and can take that much of Arthur Godfrey, this is a great short film about flying in the early 50's. It's is NOT the usual stuff shot in the passenger cabin concentrating on pretty stewardesses and in-flight food, but a more technical and interesting story. Of particular interest in are the scenes in the Lockheed Super Constellation. As well as smoking Chesterfields in the cockpit. Wiki says the signature tri-tail of the "Connie" was the result of many initial customers not having hangars tall enough for a conventional tail.

And here's a 30 minute 1940 promotional film from Lockheed. How they designed and built the planes. Even has a segment on how they use a spectrograph!
