For plot development having William testify before Ayano makes sense but I don't think it makes sense legally. The state should make its case before any defense witnesses testify.
It remains, however, a powerful story.

I recognize that Ayano must hear William's story of the second soldier before she testifies.

Flashbacks nested within flashbacks followed by other flashbacks. My thinking is too linear to ever write like that but the story flows and I love it.
Congratulations on the sales. You're a great story teller and more people will now know it.
