since Los Jib outed me completely, I might as well do what I like doing... promoting the heck out of stuff!!! Seriously though, it's a great time and lots of interesting performers show up! It's a place for all, just no alcohol! We've had poets, to 3 piece bands, and definitely many acoustic performers too. We have a couple of myspaces for info. www.myspace.com/tramontanecafeIt's a good time for all. We have a handicap ramp out front on Lincoln Ave. We are working on getting a piece of property from the City for "real parking" but, we were given permission to use it anyway!!

This was to share information that would be interesting to some folks who like musical & spoken performances or those who were looking for something different to do on Sunday nights, or for those interested in taking a chance in performing. I probably should have left out the line that says we encourage purchasing, that made it too commercial didn't it? so very sorry. hopefully mentioning the handicap ramp wasn't too offensive.

And it's appreciated to know there is something to do that doesn't involve going to cavallos.

midtowner, I don't think many people would be surprised to learn that in order to keep the doors open, you need to exchange product for money. It's a capitalism thing. What time do the performances usually begin? I hope it's not past my bedtime.
I like the sound of handicap ramp. It's so much warmer than challenge ramp.

Nothing offensive about a ramp. I am glad you mentioned it, it would make it easier for my wife to get in!
Let us know the times down there, it might be something we would be interested in coming to see after the birds go to bed some Sunday night!

There is a fine line being dealt with here and i'm not sure which side of the line this falls on.
this is either advertisement and shameless promotion or it's information about what's going on in Utica.
I think it's the former. It would be different if someone who doesn't have a stake in the financial gain in the event promotes it, as opposed to someone who will benefit financially promoting it.
So if i want to tell everyone to come out to a UC hockey game its one thing and completely appropriate but if the head of marketing at UC came on here and promoted the game it would be completely another.
there is an inherent danger of making a public forum into a public market. We could all begin promoting everything we do. Because the event is happing in the area where we live does not make it any less spam than if it were happening in Nigeria or Guam etc.
Midtowner, i'm all for you promoting the area, I just have a problem when you stand to benefit from the promotion. That's advertising. I get why you do it. The best advetising is free advertising but this isn't the place. if you want to encourage everyone to go down to saranac thursday or head on down to babe's for cans and clams because you think it's a good time, that's fine. but when you promote your own business it's tactless and shameful.

Looks like a commercial to me...
only a matter of time before every bar and resturant owner in town finds this and posts the shit about their stuff on it as well... that what you guys want?
we might as well start a help wanted section, put a place to post about garage sales and what ever the hell else...
whats wrong with having a forum being ad free? i mean the google ads are on the site... thats why they give you the boards for free.... but do we really need people coming on here for the only reason... but to post thier shit??

I have to agree. I don't watch many TV shows because I hate commercials.
Midtowner-you asked what the difference is between you promoting your store and someone else promoting a sporting event (or something to that effect)
The difference is I don't stand to profit from telling you to go to the yankee mets game this year. If you didn't profit then it would be one thing but you do which just makes it a commerical for your business which is not needed nor the intent of these forums.
It doesn't make you proactive, positive or a visionary when you self promote. It makes you look selfish, wiley and shameless.

I don't watch many TV shows because I hate commercials. That's a valid point, although the analogy isn't quite right. Reading an online forum is more like watching a TV show that you have recorded. You can skip past the commercials. You know, I didn't recognize that there were Google ads on these pages until losjibaros mentioned it. After being online all these years, I guess I've developed the ability to zap (fast forward past) the vast majority of advertising. Don't let that get out, though. There's some Google in my portfolio.
