What does everyone think about a chat room? We could probably add a limited feature chat room here. Would anyone be interested?

Though, I am sure others might be keen to the idea.

I forgot to mention this when you asked me in the e-mail.
The Chat feature on Pro-Boards isn't all that and a bad of chips Kim. It's pretty rudimentary and hard to get to.
We used to use it on our board but gave up on it as it was more of a pain in the ass then anything else.

I'd be happy to take your credit card number, but sorry...no webcam. ;-)
Ok, ok...scrap the chat idea. I used to do the irc thing all the time, but haven't in years. I actually prefer the forums now.

IRC is fun, but I don't go on them anymore unless it's for support with my linux distro. I think it's easier to keep track of what's going on with just the forum. If anyone wants to chat in real-time they can just PM each other to exchange e-mails or AIM/Yahoo!/MSN/ICQ account names and go from there.

I agree with swimmy. I don't think a chatroom is neccessarily beneficial to the board. Sorry kim, and thanks for the idea anyhow. I agree that the forum format, and email is plenty. We can IM if we want live chat.
Chat rooms have become the scourge of computer communication. They have been misused and have gained a bad rep. I think for now, we should table that idea. That is just my personal, and limited opinion. I am not chatroom aware, and have not entered any (that I know of, haha)
I would hate to end up on MSNBC for telling a minor to kiss my butt, and have stone phillips come to my door, asking why I was talking dirty to a 13 year old. I like knowing who I am communicating with, and having a chance to edit and preview my posts.
Let's hear what others seem to think of the suggestion.

Sorry for the duplicate posts. The first time I posted it, it didn't connect to the site according to the computer. Oh well.

Actually, I agree that it's a good idea to scrap it. Now that I think about it, when I've gone into chat rooms on message boards they've kind of sucked. IM is much easier and more controlled. AND...if, for some reason we all ever do want to chat, we can set it up to do it via yahoo or something.
I used to go into the irc's, but there were only a couple of very carefully selected channels I would enter. I had several friends who were involved with 12-step groups, and they would hang out in the 12-step chat rooms and bs. I'd go into those just to talk to them in real time. Those channels actually tried to have real online meetings! I always left when those were started. Those channels pretty much died a few years back as we all got into other things, and I haven't been back to them since.
Anyway, yeah...I think the boards and pm, etc are the way to go.
