It doesn't seem like it, but one year ago today the world lost Barbaro. He had such personality and was my favorite next to Secretariat. We may never see the likes of him again.

He lasted a year longer than anyother horse would have. It may sound cold and callous but a horse is a horse, of course of course.....now everyone can remember and enjoy him everytime they use some Elmers......

Yes he did. And he wasn't turned into glue, he will be buried at Churchill Downs.

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but I didn't realize you were talking about horses until Jduges's post. You wouldn't happen to have any links to what happened so that I can no longer be completely ignorant, would you?
Thanks.

I don't know how to post links (excuse MY ignorance). But in a nutshell he was a wonderful colt who won the Kentucky Derby in 2006. Then at the Preakness he broke his leg just out of the starting gate. They took him to the New Bolton Center in Pennsylvania and operated on him. It was looking like he was gonna make it, although with a gimp. But he got laminitis in both front hooves. It is a very painful disease and there is no cure. They had to put him down after 8 months of hoping he would pull through.
He was just a great horse. It's hard to describe. Everyone just fell in love with him. He just had such a great heart and great personality. They did a bunch of documentaries on him and there was even one that included a high school class up in Old Forge that had written papers about him and drawn pictures.
I'm sure if you Google him you'll come up with all kids of info.

Thank you. Sounds like quite a tragic story though. I'll have to google it tonight.
