In Germany's Der Spiegel Today, Tuesday 25March08: www.spiegel.de/international/How German Intelligence Helped Justify the US Invasion of Iraq Five years ago, the US government presented what it said was proof that Iraq harbored biological weapons. The information came from a source developed by German intelligence -- and it turned out to be disastrously wrong. But to this day, Germany denies any responsibility. German Intelligence Was 'Dishonest, Unprofessional and Irresponsible' tinyurl.com/3dqtv9David Kay was charged by the Bush administration with finding weapons of mass destruction in Iraq after the invasion. Instead of finding weapons, though, he found what he told SPIEGEL was 'the biggest intelligence fiasco of my lifetime.'

Yes, No, Maybe so........but in the end the only one Bush has to blame for it all is himself.

I believe the US also played a part in fortifying Saddam as part of supporting Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war which waged for 10 years. Funny how the US becomes its own worst enemy.

Yes, we supplied him with the nerve gas he used to poison the Kurds.
And we gave surface-to-air missles to the Taliban too.
Who knew?

Politics. I remember watching a special about Osama bin Laden. It gave a nice history of how the CIA trained him and his men, helped him battle the commies invading Afghanistan, etc. Then they discussed how the U.S. just left Afghanistan to the war lords, like the Taliban and broke all its promises. If we had followed through with our promises of yesterday, bin Laden might not be our enemy of today.
The same thing holds true for North Korea. billy clinton set up a trade agreement with NK and had a plan to normalize relations. Bush came to power and killed it. Now we have a volatile 3rd world communist nation angry with us and China is ready to defend it to the death if we use any force to resolve the nukes issue.
Vietnam, another example of where politics fueled another fire. China. Had the U.S. followed through in supporting Chang Kai Chek, Mao Tzedug would have been defeated and China might be a free republic instead of the hybrid communist nation it is today.
Politics played a crucial role in each instance. It's one of the many reasons why politics should have no role in military operations. It's why the knuckleheads on Capital Hill calling for an immediate withdrawal because we're failing should be ignored while our generals and the soldiers actually there insist we can win and are succeeding should be listened to.

Yes, No, Maybe so........but in the end the only one Bush has to blame for it all is himself. And the Overwelming majority of Congress and US Citizens- for some reason everyone forgets that part.

Yeah, everyone is to blame for it. I love how politicians like hilary cry out that President Bush lied to her and the rest of Congress. Yet they relied on the same intelligence the President relied on with no reason to doubt its authenticity.
