(Ron) Paul, the Texas congressman who distinguished himself as the only Republican presidential candidate opposing the Iraq War, gained a devoted following, harnessing the power of the Internet to raise more cash than more mainstream rivals, including current front-runner McCain. But that same anti-war, libertarian bent that gave Paul national recognition could come back to bite him at home. Paul, who ran for the White House as a libertarian in 1988 but gained more of a following this year as a Republican, has not suspended his presidential campaign, but he has significantly scaled back his national operation to focus on the race at home. I suppose it was only a matter of time before someone would challenge Dr. Paul for his seat in the House, claiming they might bring home more bacon that Ron Paul ever did.

I thought this post would bring you out of the woodwork! I don't know anything about Paul's talking points back in his district, but it's not a surprise that Texas War Hawks would see an opportunity. From what little I've read, Paul's anti war stance is reasoned and principled... although I don't agree with him .... but his opposition home on the range will make some easy hay of it among people who really aren't listening.

Ron is a very nice person and knows that if he quit he would make some other poor soul last in the race. Who would that be?

That would be McCain now that Huckabee has dropped out.
