Well, I hope that Obama wins the democratic nomination. But my fear is that she will be our next president. I'm willing to bet my Pension Check that Hillary will NOT be the next President. She does NOT carry the woman's vote like her campaign managers want the average person to believe. Bobbiez and I are NOT voting for her. There is your proof!!!!!!!

That hardly qualifies as speaking for the majority of women voters, no offense.

Thelma,, you're right. You and I are the same page when it comes to Hillary. No way is she my choice for a women, (which I hope I live long enough to see a women in that position), to be President. She can't control her own, why would I want her to control the whole country? As I stated in one of my post, I feel Obama is our next President and I really have no problem with that.

swimmy, are you hitting those books?? Your test is coming up soon, right? Don't want to wish you luck because that won't get you through the test, but "STUDY HARD."

Thanks, frankcor. But I wasn't home in time. It would have been a good opportunity for bringing myself up to date .... I'm not really following this stuff all that closely.

I think my judgement of the Kennedy & Johnson presidencies will always be colored by the information from the Pentagon Papers. Although these were released during the Nixon administration, the events covered in them were from the Kennedy & Johnson administrations.
As an aside, they were published shortly before I went before my E-5 board to determine my fitness for promotion to Sgt. Most people prepared for these by studying things military. I had already decided that the US Army & I were parting ways in 3 months and really didn't care if I got promoted. I spent the night before the board re-reading my copy of M*A*S*H.
It turned out to be an OK choice because I got a lot of political questions and not much about the military. The board seemed as confused and conflicted about the revelations as I did. In any event, I got the promotion and mustered out with 3 stripes on my sleeve.
Why the conflict? Soldiers recognize that they might die for their country but also expect their country to be worthy of that. Sounds idealistic but I was young & idealistic in my 20's.
The papers revealed that JFK had acquiesced or even approved the over throw of an allied government (the Diem regime), a bow to political reality but not at all honorable.
LBJ exaggerated or even faked the Gulf of Tonkin incident, the North Vietnamese attack on the US Navy that resulted in a Congressional resolution authorizing the big Vietnam build-up. You might say "Bush lied & people died" but this was a much bigger lie resulting in many more deaths. Reading that it was hard to balance my opinion of him with the positive things like the Civil Rights Act

That hardly qualifies as speaking for the majority of women voters, no offense. That statement was meant as a joke, swimmy. I'm still willing to bet that Hillary will NOT carry the "woman's vote" and get the Democratic Nomination.

Clarence, I'm cracking up. I re-read my copy of Catch-22 the night before my E-5 board hearing.

Not a Kennedy fan by any means, Clarence, I still have to comment that being President is a tough job.
