Are flip flops illegal to wear when driving a car? If so then why are the police not ticketing this people at area shopping centers. I see 100's wearing them. Wouldn't this bring needed income to the city and may save a life?

answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090410142229AABc0hSNot illegal, and neither is driving barefoot. Personally I would rather see someone driving barefoot than with flip flops. Moving your feet from accelerator to brake pedal could be awkward with flip flops on your feet. I see more people every day wearing those foolish things. I can't imagine what a podiatrist would say about the trend, but I have to think a person would soon have flat feet wearing footwear with no arch support whatsoever. I associate those damn things with preventing athletes foot in a public shower. Kathy and I each keep a pair in the camper to use while using the shower rooms at a campsite. I always called them "shower shoes" prior to the manufacturers placing glitzy bows and decorations on them and charging women 8 or 10 bucks for the darn things. They magically were transformed from 98 cent shower shoes to moderately priced fashionable footwear.

Might depend on the State. I have heard driving barefoot in NYS is illegal, although I think driving with flip flops to be unsafe.
there have been times I have driven barefoot or even sock footed, stick shift even. Sometimes after a long night working on my feet, it felt great to finally get those shoes off. And once I set the cruise control, I could rest my tired feet for the duration.

After perusing the V&T laws for NY, I can't find anything pertaining to footwear or any kind of apparel while operating a motor vehicle.

I have to defer to the person at the link that stated that it was not against the law, who touted 17 yrs in law enforcement.

Perhaps the police use a law that prohibits "driving in an unsafe manner" to collar a flip-flopped driver. A friend in college got a ticket like that for driving while undressing his girlfriend. Guess the cop couldn't find a statute that specifically outlawed such an act.
He married her and they have 4 kids. She had to explain to her parents what the item in the paper meant: "Local man ticketed for unsafe act."

Not to be confused with politicians who are often found driving while flip flopping.

hey I wear flip flops in the summer. Heck everyone does it is the style. I don't have a problem with them falling off my feet when driving either. (there go my Havaianas) Actually I like my LLBean flip flops better. They are not flat and have a wider cloth part that you insert your toes in.

I noticed a few people during the Boilermaker actually run barefoot!! I heard that it is becoming more popular. Doesn't it hurt hitting the pavement over and over again? I saw that Dr. Oz gave out a pair of these new running footwear that minics running barefoot. That sounds odd to me.

running is not good for your joints...walking is better. I don't know about the shoes Dr Oz was giving out but I could not see how one can walk or run without them. Heat, dirt, glass, a nail, a bug. My uncle died from stepping on a nail and got blood poisoning.

LOL. I had to laugh when I read that Clarence. That would be the last time I ran also if not for the years I spent in the base fire dept. where running was sometimes necessitated by emergency situations. I couldn't run across the road now if the seat of my pants was in flames and the creek was on the other side, lol.
