I don't blame Obama for not being impressed with a endorsement by a wet brained old drunk, "used to be" statesman.
It is sad for the dems that this senile old fart didn't do what Kerry did, and go hide his ignorance until the primary was over.
Better yet, he could have climbed on to Hillary's campaign, and derailed that ill conceived blather of crap.
There should be a special asylum for "worn out, used up, senile has beens like Kennedy"
Although I am not a paritisan voter, I am still hoping the country is smart enough to vote for McCain and get us out of the war successfully, and victorious. Then in 2112, Obama or some other candidate can address education and healthcare and other issues.
Wake the hell up people, we are in a war, and we cannot just pick up our stuff and come home. To concede in Iraq will be the beginning of the end for civilization as we know it. Terrorists will be walking the streets of america, and we will see it here instead of there. Make the choice, but ponder the consequences before you make any rash decisions for your children and grandchildren to live with, or die with.
Wars kill people, but victory sets people free. Stop and think what Europe would look like today, as well as what the US would look like, if we had not stayed the course and sacrificed the lives that made victory possible in WWII.
I rest my case!

There might not even be a United States of America if the federalists just stopped fighting in the middle of the war. Imagine how different history would have been had there never been a U.S.

These are always fascinating questions. I remember reading a lengthy treatise that posed the question: what would have been the impact on the outcome of World War II had the Confederacy been successful in leaving the Union at the end of the Civil War?
The author concluded that the divided states would not have been strong enough to help the Allies defeat the Axis powers. The Confederacy, with a largely agricultural economy may have even sided with the Axis in hopes of obtaining new industrial trading partners.

Frankcor,
If you're really into the "what if" scenarios of history check out some of the stuff by Harry Turtledove. It is historical fiction but he has written on a few scenarios like that such as what if the Japanese had sent a 3rd wave of bombers against Pearl Harbor and actually invaded Hawaii or what if the Confederacy successfully defended itself during the Civil War.
With all the technical minutiae I have to read at work I find this stuff a good light read.

NHcitizen18,
Have you read "The Man in The High Castle" by Philip K. Dick? It's a sci-fi story of how things might have been had the Japanese and the Germans won WWII. If you're looking for some light reading, give it a try.
