Police: Serial rapist caught in Utica homicide victim's car in Pennsylvania
Observer-Dispatch
Robert Blainey, a convicted serial rapist and sex offender who recently went missing in the Utica area, was found around 6:30 p.m. Monday near Montoursville, Pa., during a traffic stop in which he was driving the car of Utica homicide victim Linda Turner, according to Utica Police.
Turner, 68, the owner of the Davis Motel on Herkimer Road in North Utica, was found dead Thursday at the motel. Police had been searching for her car — a 2001 Toyota Solara — which was missing from the motel parking lot.
Blainey is a Level 3 sex offender whose last-known address was on the 900 block of Rutger Street in Utica, about a half-mile away from the Roscoe Conkling and Albany elementary schools.
Blainey was first convicted of attempted rape in 1984 for forcing himself upon an 8-year-old girl. Then while on parole, he was again arrested in 1988 and convicted of raping two adult women in Madison County, according to police records.
Blainey was released from prison in 2009, but he recently went missing after failing to report in recent weeks to his parole officer with the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
Blainey is listed as one of New York State’s Top 100 Most Wanted Fugitives.
Investigators from the department’s Criminal Investigation Division are en route to Montoursville.
It is a relief to see this dangerous criminal caught, but very sad that he could not have been caught before he killed Linda Turner. She was a nice lady. I did some work for her years ago when I owned the carpet cleaning business. It is only now that he will be sent away for life. It is too bad that these types of criminals are given so many chances to re-offend, and to harm innocent people. After the second conviction, he should have been chemically castrated. Better yet, he should have been surgically castrated and his freeze dried testicles hung around his neck on a chain.
