A real "unharnessed" energy source would be to erect windmills in legislative chambers and board rooms, haha. I guess it is becoming evident that someone has to sacrifice for the good of all. Here in the south, there is a battle going on over a coal burning power plant. It is ironic. The plant will burn Virginia coal from local mines, and most of the areas economy revolves around coal mining, yet the crap continues to fly.
We have oil rigs offshore, and it is apparent that we need windmills offshore, or along the shore. At least windmills have little impact on the environment, and however unsightly, they do not emit anything other than the power generated. We can look at windmills offshore or we can look at huge, ugly, towers in our side yards, and suffer the effects of their emissions. We can continue to build hydro power upstate and ruin the asthetics of our lakes and streams or we can build windmills, harmless windmills, downstate and close to the power consuming people that need the extra power.
With the alternatives being nuclear, coal burning or more transmission lines to carry power from existing sources, how can anyone be so ridiculous as to object to wind power. I actually think that the wind farm over by route 20 is an awsome sight. And it makes no significant noise or any atmospheric pollution.

I am all for producing as much energy as we can domestically whether it be coal, wind solar or nuclear. Its scary how much our dependence on oil has forced us to be involved in the domestic issues of other countries.
I will usually be the last one to want to emulate the French, but their utilization of nuclear power as their chief source of energy really is the right way to go. Nuclear has the potential to dramatically reduce our dependence on foreign oil and is clean for the environment (with the exception of waste material that can actually be recycled if we chose to do it).
France has had Nuclear power for over 50 years without any major incidents. Thats enough to prove its safety in my book.

Yeah, but this is America. Here, we cut corners. Remember 3-mile?
I've heard some studies suggesting that wind power is not all it is cracked up to be. Perhaps out on the ocean they'd be less disruptive to the environment. Without any hills, trees, buildings, etc., the winds can really pickup and increase the power output.
If it works for europe, it's gotta have some good.
