I talked about this yesterday, I do disagree with you Concrened.. when you are talking about giving back a piece of the income tax pie.. should you not give it back to people that paid into it, I woudl not call this exclusion making the eldery and disabled suffer... Maybe feel left out.. but not suffering.
That is unless the government is just going to have the Tresuary Dept print up a few billion in new bills.. than what the hell, let everybody eat cake... damn the torpedos and full steam ahead (into a bigger brick wall) Magic money at this point will do more harm than good....
Increasing Food stamps and heap benny's will not boost the economey at all, it will just make it more attractive for somebody who does not work to continue doing so. A welfare state is the last thing we need with a recession looming....
If they really want to make a difference.. give everybody a rebate on what they paid in Income Tax last year.. say, 10%.. man i could dig that.

It should have nothing to do with who pays taxes. In the article it states that children in families will be getting a piece of the pie. Are they directly paying taxes. This stimulus package is supposed to jump start the econy. Everyone should be included not just those who are working. These people also buy merchandiise. And these people have the same buying power as those who work and otherwise file income taxes. I am talking about people who are collecting social security in any of its forms. These people also count in our consumer society.

What this is, is basicaly an early Tax Return... and that is pretty much what this is... Peope that pay income taxes should get income taxes refunded...
if you havent paid income taxes.. why should you get a piece of the income tax pie back?

I can see what you are saying. What I am saying is why does this have to be tied to income tax at all. The economy is stimulated by any individuals actions, not just by those who other wise file for income tax or not. I know this idea would be problematic but I still have questions.

Where else would they get the money from?? Social Security? the Post Office... the only other option is the printing press... When you email mike.. ask him if he can have them print me some 13 dollar bills with my face on them...

Who me? It's in the link above. It says: Individuals who pay income taxes would get up to $600, working couples $1,200 and those couples with children an additional $300 per child under the deal. Workers who make at least $3,000 but don't pay taxes would get $300 rebates.

Those who earn up to $75,000 individually or up to $150,000 as a couple filing jointly will get the max rebates, it seems. If you make more than that I guess you'll get less.

If your AGI is higher than $75K, you get what Paddy shot at.
It is neither a tax rebate, nor a tax refund. The topic should be renamed "entitlement stimulus."
They're going to give taxpayers $600, non-tax payers, $300. They will either spend it or save it. Either of those activities will help the economy. It could be worse, I suppose.
