www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/01/22/ST2008012203684.htmlOk, fine and dandy, up to 800 bucks if your single, 1600 if your married... they are probalby going to just print more money and lower the dollar even more.... Personaly, this is fine with me, 800 bucks goes a long way, i can pay some bills big time... the hang up? some politicians ( and i do not seperate dems from reps they are all politicans) want to include low income people as well... now i have a problem... I pay over 7k in federal a year and get back diddly squat even with my intrest and property tax write off. A single mom of two can pay 2k a year in taxes and get back over 5K.... I have no problem with that, none at all. if you want to give a break to tax payers.. give a break to tax payers... you know people that actualy pay taxes. the only thing that bothers me about this is the economy will not get stimulated by this.. walmart will.

So what is your beef with giving low income families a tax break too? They pay FICA.

i dont have a beef with it swimmy, If you pay 500 bucks in fica should you get 800 back... no you should get maybe 50.00 back...
i mean the EIC used to bother me, but i see many examples where single mothers actualy stay on their feet with it...
ever see the chapel show where a bucket of KFC went up to 250.00? thats whats going to happen!

the problem is, with this kind of rebate is that its an advance against 2008 tax year's refunds. When they did this in 2001 and people got $300 around August, they had to claim that $300 on their tax return in the begining of 2002 when filing TY 2001 returns. While $1600 would come in handy right now, it might end up being that some people's tax returns will suffer for it next year, if indeed this "rebate" is something to be claimed later. I suggest everyone do some reading on how they are structuring this, as it is a big deal. Believe it when someone tells you there is nothing for free, you'll pay for it sooner or later.
And no I don't think its going to help the economy much. as for us, it will help pay down some of the debt we are amassing while my wife is finishing her RN. To me its just a temporary fix, a crutch, but its not a solution to the real economic problems this country (and to some extent the world) is facing.

$1600 bucks.......don't tell my wife....she'll have it spent before bush even signs off on it.
I agree that it's a farce and we lose it on the back end. It won't stimulate the economy because most people will either A.) pay a bill usually issued to bank that isn't even located in this country B.) take a trip C.) piss it away on a frivolous item or D.)Gamble it away at the Casino.
None of that really stimulates the economy. Sure it puts some of that money back, but why not just cut a check to Walmart, Disney, Turning Stone, and HSBC? Why even make us the middle men?
I'm gonna burn mine......erase 1600 right off the map....yeah right......Hello Flat Screen TV. I think I could get a nice 42 inch floor model DLP 1080i HD TV for that much. Sweet.
Maybe I'll get a discount cause I'm a junior member.....is that kinda like a cub scout? If it is then Jibaros is Canteen Boy from the old SNL skit with Sandler and Alec Baldwin.

But that money just goes to drug dealers when the stipper buys her crack. And the drug money get's laundered and sent back to where all the commercials tell you the drugs come from.............the terrorists!.........Sometimes our own propoganda makes me laugh, did people really buy into that one?

My friend sent me a video file the other day. It was a documentary on the events leading up to and after 9-11-2001. The documentary makes a compelling argument that it was in fact a self-inflicted wound to make billions. It shows footage of an airplane bouncing off the ground before it struck the pentagon. Then it shows the aftermath and quotes from various documents and officials. Things like how there was no imprint from the engines. Or how pentagon officials near that area smelled an explosive residue. To how the towers looked like a well-planned demolition executed with military precision. Days before the event, there were more bids on AmericanAirlines and United Airways stock that it would fall than normal. And that United Flight 93 landed in Columbus, OH and it's tail number is still registered with the FAA.
I'm not one to fall for conspiracy theories, though I like to keep my mind open to different viewpoints. I was quite amazed at how thorough the commentary was and they showed convincing support.
Let's just say that if it was true, it would make it easier to swallow the pill saying that the moon landing was the greatest hoax pulled over the world.

can't open it golden, is it supposed to be a link?
Think about this for a moment. Yes, the economy is in trouble, there is no doubt. But do you think this so called bail out is a political measure? I mean everyone gets a nice chunk of change while this President (I use the term loosely of course) is still in office. Next year, under the new administration, everyone is back in trouble again because they have to claim this refund. Does anyone else think this is a temporary fix to pass these problems on to the next administration?

What I would like to know is how will people who are collecting Social Security Benifits; SS,SSI,SSD and do not work, get there share of the rebate. There is talk about a temporary increase in food stamps but what if the above individuals do not get food stamps? I was going to say that the rebate could be added on to peoples HEAP benifit;which would be great, but then again not everyone who does not work have HEAP. I sent an email to Rep. Arcuri a week ago and still no answer. I read in the New York Times today that both parties are working together to make this bipartisan. Mnnn, I wonder about that.
