Thanks guys, and Ralph is right. It was akin to being between a rock and a hard place. This is why I felt that giving the raise, but implimenting it after the next election would have been the fair thing to do and much more acceptable to the taxpayers.
As for the contract issue, I am starting to gather as much info as possible on that now and do have petitions available at the office for those wishing to sign in support of the OCPBA.

Firstly I want to make myself crystal clear.
Larry, I meant no disrespect or personal attack in your direction or on you. As I said before, this issue was dragging out long before you came in. I respect your reasons and understand them, but had your colleagues addressed this long ago, they could have implemented it at the beginning of one of three terms. As Clipper stated and I will echo, I applaud you for your courage and independency on this issue. As you have found out, you may not always be on the popular side of an issue and you some wear-with-all to endure the "shit" storm that may come from it. It is always easier to "go with the flow", but if people who were elected to office and ran on the platform of "change" or "to make a difference" held true to their word, you would not be a lone ranger on issues such as this.
Secondly,
You are correct as to my terminology of the waiting process as being "tabled". I was trying to be brief in my post and not confusing at the same time. I stand corrected sir.

If this isn't politics at its worst, then I don't know what else to call it. Thelma, it's called "democracy." <g, d, rlh>
