Heck Swimmy, the OD forum will go down on friday. I guess they are simply playing with us for the duration of the forum. I have had stuff deleted and watched threads dissappear lately too. I guess if that is the mentality of the morons that are in charge of that zoo now. It is a sad day for the area, when the ONLY newspaper is getting so low in their integrity in reporting. I have been apalled by the reporting of the incident of Joe Voce being killed by his wife. I know that they both are alcoholics, and that they had this tumultuous and violent relationship for years. That doesn't excuse the cold and irresponsible one sided reporting of the events. I think that throwing those innocent children to the "wolves" by putting that stupid comment section up with no regard for the truth was in very poor taste, and could have been handled with a little more finesse. If they felt a need to publish a biased, one sided article, they did not have to open the discussion for all of the indignant comments from the uninformed public. I am glad that a comment that I made was on THIS forum and I was able to retract and delete it. I was lucky to read the pitiful plea from the son to reserve judgement on his mother until the facts were known. I most likely would have jumped aboard the wagon and criticized the victim and wife also. Some situations need to be brought to light, but when selling papers has to be at the expense of the feelings of innocent children, I find it despicable. Say good bye to the OD forums. They are on their last legs and will be taken down completely on Friday. I will miss reading them, but I am glad that we have our own place to go. I wonder how many new members we will gain when they are gone.

The nice thing about the forums was that regulars could help police it. The absentee moderators didn't do much of anything and it was up to us regulars to keep the one-line wonders in check.

Well they're locked up tight as a drum now.
So much for OD Forum #3. I wonder how long the comment section will last?
And as far as their mentioning that the comment area will appear under each article they are full of shit.

They don't know what the hell they are doing. I find myself going to 9wsyr.com more and more to get LOCAL news for here. The OD is so biased on everything they report, and don't report the shit that should be important .
They're too busy stating their opinion on everything. Almost time to get rid of my subscription too.

Swimmy, I think what happens is that when someone like you comes along and posts facts or compelling reasoning, the braindamaged illiterates that troll anonymous comment sections like that who are incapable of presenting a reasoned response, instead post personal attacks and vile language. Chinleo then sees that the discussion has degenerated to the point where she needs to remove it.

I know Thelma and I thank you for your support. I just had to vent after reading the editorial in todays rag sheet. But then again I guess I can't expect anything less from them. ......................................................................... It was just announced on WKTV News, the Board of Legislators (sp) overrode Pilente's Veto by 22 Yeas to 2 Nos. CONGRADUATIONS ARE IN ORDER FOR THE SHERIFF - Well deserved raise which was long overdue!!!!!!!

Yea that is good news. But now it is tabled for 45 days for any objections and allows the nay sayers to gather 7,500 signatures on petitions. If that happens then it will have to be put on the Nov ballot for public referendum.

THAT IS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS! All I heard was that the Legislators could over ride Pilante's Veto - which they did. Now they are going to "table" what was approved for 45 more days so the Neys can gather all there croonie signatures to over ride what the Legislators approved?
If this isn't politics at its worst, then I don't know what else to call it.
Watch - the next step will be getting the taxpapers told how much their taxes will go up if this raise is approved!!!!!
This is worst than Corporate America ever thought of doing!!!!

For the record, it is not "tabled." When a Local Law is passed, of any kind, it doesn't take effect until 45 days later. This is State Law and allows for a "permissive referendum" which means that anyone can get signatures to place it on the ballot for a vote by the entire county. You know, the actual taxpayers that will have to pay for it. Whether anyone will actually get nearly 8,000 signatures is highly unlikely, but in a democracy the people do have the ability to do so if they wish.
No need to get so angry over it, it is part of the democratic process and wouldn't have taken effect for 45 days even if the Executive didn't veto it.

I'm glad that the Sheriff's position has finally seen a long-deserved raise. Whether Middaugh is holding the position or someone else is, 12 years (or was it 15?) is an awfully long time for a salary to stay the same.

The job title needed the raise regardless of who is doing the job. The jail also now needs a raise. Then maybe you could keep employment in Oneida County and eliminate the quick over turn rate.

Tanoury Jr. Thanks Larry, for the explanation of the process for placing a referendum on the ballot. It clarified the delay to my satisfaction, and removed any question. I read the comment section in the OD this morning and found people slamming you for voting against implementing the raise mid-term. I have to tell you that I don't agree with you on this issue, but I fully understand and respect your position. You were elected to represent YOUR district and the views of those YOU represent. For that, I applaud your courage and your sense of responsibility to those that elected you. A TRULY effective politician, will vote the position of his constiuency, even if it not neccessarily his own position on a subject. THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE ELECTED TO DO! This kind of integrity is why you are my friend, and why I have confidence in your ability to represent the people of your district. Now with that said, I congratulate Dan Middaugh on his long deserved raise. I only hope that the deputies' contract issues will be resolved soon and in a fair and equitable manner. The deputies have waited too long for a well deserved raise. The other item to be addressed is the matter of senior deps being paid the same as some of the newbies.

This was akin to being between that rock and hard place.
No matter which way it went it was going to be slammed.
In the end it was deserved, no doubt. But I do understand the reasoning of not instituting it mid stream for an elected official. If he planned on staying the course until "retirement" from that position, he should have lobbied to have it upped to take place at the next term. But I think a good amount of fault for it not being instituted before this has to fall on past Legislative bodies and not this one.
Now if they can only get the rest of the contracts straightened out!!!
