"the sentence a bit harsh." .......................................That's what we come up with whenever a serious crime has been committed, for the Judges to start throwing the book at the scum on our streets.
Again, without comparing the two cases, (and I do feel as you do about the DWI laws not being strict enough), I am elated that the punk attacking the Officer got 6 years.
It's happening all over, not just here in Utica, where our Officers are being attacked or killed on a daily basis. To the point where enforcement agencies are out on the streets, even have posters in grocery stores (which I have never seen before), trying to recruit others for the job. Not too many want to face what's out there on the streets now and I can't blame them one damn bit. Nothing like it use to be. Sure as hell would not want another son or grandson going into that line of employment any more and for those that are, I am preaching to them to take an early retirement. Pretty ironic, when I was the one 19 years ago wholly supporting their decision to become Police Officers.
My attitude has changed because of the attitudes of the scum on our streets today and also because of the general publics attitude toward our Police Officer. Why would I want my kids to possibly give up their lives for doing a job that you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't? Too many sit in their safe little homes and are so quick to criticize the ones out there who are trying to keep their homes safe.
Again not comparing the two cases, a strong message had to be given out that it will no longer be acceptable or will you just receive a slap on the hand if you injure an Officer in any way. It's been long overdue and it's about time the system is finally listening to us. I for one will continue to pressure the system to give out those stronger messages to all the scum on our streets no matter what the crime is. You do the crime, you do the time. The longer the better!!!!!! ........................................................................................................
I agree 100% with you and pray every night for the safety of your two sons that they survive until the day they are eligible for Retirement.
What we really need in New York State is the reinstatement of the Death Penalty for the killing of ANY Law Enforcement Officer which also includes Correction Officers.
Who really cares if the Injection Method of Death is "cruel and inhumane". The victim certainly was not asked if they wanted a pain free death by the criminal that took it.
I was hoping the testimony of the Corr family last year would have penetrated the minds of our liberal politians down in Albany and they would reinstate the Death Penalty -but- that didn't happen.
So, we will continue to pay a minimum of $40,000 each, year after year, keeping these killers alive, warm, and fed for years and years until they end up dying in their sleep!
Of course the fact that businesses are NOT coming into New York State and the ones here are leaving as fast as they can all because of the high taxes and the high cost of doing business in New York State. Our politicians don't care about this - but do care about the "cruel and inhumane" method of lethel injection.
I can't figure out their thinking. Can anyone else?
