I am sure he will be convicted in the shooting incident, but it would be grossly unfair for him to face the death penalty as a cop killer under the circumstances. He had no intention of harming anyone that night with the exception of possibly harming himself. The gunfire that precipitated Patterson's returning fire and the killing of the deputy was a sad mistake on someone's part, and THAT is what needs to come out and THAT needs to be addressed to prevent a repeat performance at some point in time. The shooting with the non lethal rounds simply did not make sense. Time was on their side with daylight coming soon. I still say that it would have gone down differently and Wyman would still be alive if a State Police negotiator had responded to the scene, and the State Police had been in command of the scene.. My guess is he will be convicted of some kind of manslaughter charge. What is his current charge?

You can certainly lock the Thread Clip, its bound to come up again in the next coming year 10 times during the unfolding when it goes to trial. In the end, we will likely disagree on the verdict, I am not even going to guess this one! That little murderous bitch who duct taped her daughter and threw her in the woods walked away free for a time, just like OJ!
This is certainly going to be an interesting and totally sad trial in my eyes. Nothing will bring back the Deputy and no matter what happens, Patterson's life is over as he knew it. All over a Domestic Dispute that seemed to have been settled before the police intervention even began.
Our society lost 2 brave Americans that day, one will remain alive to regret it for the both of them. The others family, friends and Coworkers will mourn the loss of their loved one forever.
The only hope I see in this thread is the slim one that at least future situations can be handled more effectively with less risk to anyone if we understand what went wrong in this sad case.

Aggravated murder and weapons charges, to answer my own question. Seems unlikely he will convicted of aggravated murder, but I'm no prosecutor.

I am at a loss on the weapons charge since it was a shotgun he legally owned on his own property. Perhaps they justify the charge based on him not putting the gun down when ordered to do so.
And even in that case, his mental state is a big issue. If he's suicidal, it sets up the mental defense.
