Doyle loses Urban Renewal positionI notice that after the "moderators" deleted frankcor's thread in the new section that is now locked, the disgrace polished its article to erase the positive spin it put on roefaro. Instead of him eliminating two jobs and then creating two similar jobs, he just replaced people. Way to embarrass the disgrace! :-)

heh heh heh Fran wrote me to let me know he had moved my thread to the comment section beneath the article.
I think Clipper pretty much nailed the assessment -- the comment system sucks. It really doesn't permit substantive discussion the way a forum does.

No it doesn't. But I think that's their intent: kill the forum.

This was on the OD's site Mondays, and then strangely disappeared only to reappear in its present form Tuesday.
This is what I think will happen and maybe one reason why the moderation is going extreme. It will be displayed on the main site portion and you can't have "off key" discussions of any type for the general public to wander across.
Oooooo........say, does anyone hear "Taps" blowing in the background?

;D Why do I detect a mischievous glint in your eye swimmy?? Why do I feel that you are about to go there and taunt your good friend Chinelo?? Behave yourself. Don't be excercising intelligence over ill conceived and ill perceived agendas by the "super moderator" hired to manage their forum! Be nice!! Behave!!! hahahahaha! ;D

Just a footnote, as I sit here thinking about OUR forum. I really am grateful that it has evolved the way it has. I am grateful that the conflict we had at the beginning, while not fun, did point us in the direction of making some very fair and very balanced rules for participation in our discussions. Frank and Ralph and others with experience, brought us to a point where I feel we are well covered by our rules, in that we can fairly and equitably moderate our board. It must be fair and equitable, as we have thus far not needed to take any serious action in moderating of any conflicts. I also have to attribute our success in maintaining a civil and well operating forum, mainly to our membership and their desire to keep it real and fun. The members are the secret to the whole success, and the rules have framed the guidelines that make it work. I only remember one or two occasions where we have perceived a discussion to be heading in a wrong direction. In those instances, a respectful PM was sent to the people involved and the situation was resolved that simply. I thank you all for that consideration for each other as well as for the moderators. It is YOU, the members that make moderation very easy, and very minimal in neccessity. I would hate to see the OD forums go by the wayside, but I see it happening just as I suspected it would, with the new rules and format. Thank you all for coming to this board and for being "Family". I love ya all, and appreciate the entertainment and educational opportunity that you bring to my life daily!

Swimmy, are you thinking about starting up news topics in the Community Discussion forum over there? The place is pretty dead since the moderators stopped posting links to the news.
They have effectively laid the groundwork to cease all meaningful discussion. Without a way of knowing when new posts have happened, there's no way to keep a conversation going. And I notice they are enabling comments on only a subset of their articles.

I don't know what to think Frank. I hate to go over there and post topics and have any run in's with chinelo the super moderator. They damned sure have killed any meaningful discussion with the new format, and it hasn't been in effect but two days. I see that even Jduges and Gitoverit aren't active on the forumj over there the last couple of days, unless they are using new screen names.
A possibility is that they were banned or chewed on like swimmy and Froggy were, and reregistered with new names (like giant) I can't believe how quiet it is on there, and how many threads have not been posted to in a couple of days.
I have a theory that they are simply letting it die, and will have the excuse that it was not generating enough interest. With the "new" comment format, they have much more control and restriction on their side. NOTHING will make it to he screen unless they want it to.
It is boring as hell, but easy as hell to manage, compared to having to do any work, such as moderating in a sensible fashion. I read it daily as well as the homepage simply because it is a connection to the local news and items of interest.
I used to use THIS forum to supplement the news from there. NOW I use this forum and simply look there to get the latest headlines and obits. Sad but true.
Remember the fun we USED to have on that forum a year ago? Pretty pitiful what it has ended up in such a short time.
As you all know, I am not a fan of two of their main irritainers, and am a whole lot of biased against them and their style. I have to state that I would suspect that their silly bullshit, and argumentative crap is one of the reasons for the demise of the forum. I think a lot of people got sick of posting and getting blasted, with no legitimate reason by the two irritainers. that is only my personal opinion, and not substantiated fact.(I bet you are sorry you ever taught me that term "irritainers" aren't ya Frank, haha)

Clipper, I think it was a multitude of issues that lead to the current mess. Most recently the rash of people who can't seem to figure out how to read simple facts, or choose to ignore them because it only destroys their bigoted, racist opinions. When the usual self-moderating annoyed them, they cried wolf and got the moderators to get involved. Then when the veteran posters lashed back, it backfired on their attempt to fully rid themselves of us. In the meantime, the moderators allowed users to register with obscene usernames in the name of spam.
But from their own forum page, So they certainly plan on eliminating the forums altogether.
I don't plan on tolling their website to see when posts are made to articles of interest, but it's a way to harass everyone there until they take that down too. The problem is that it was their own poor moderating that brought about this downfall. Unfortunately, rather than acknowledge this problem, they will do what American society has accepted as the norm and blame it on something else, like chinelo's pathetic "gang mentality" that can be interpreted by new members as offensive, when 90% of our posts are not even TOS violations. I'm extremely confident that gmo's crap wouldn't last 5 minutes on the Clipper boards.
Anywhooo, that's my two cents. I'm quitting before I stop making sense. lol.

Couple of thoughts, coming at this from the outside, so to speak. Reader comments are just that and not intended as a place for arguments. Newspapers may value reader comments as a means to measure the pulse of their readership, but would hardly appreciate a forum for hot-headed arguments. Thoughtful people soon leave such an environment and the newspaper would find itself left with a cadre of people who just like to argue who do nothing but piss each other off. It's called natural selection and here I'm referring to the phenomenon as seen in reverse. Manpower (well, Chinelo) is necessary to keep the fire under control and that costs money. Say what you might about the woman, but someone thought enough of her to hire her and they're probably begrudging the time she has to spend babysitting the forums. I mean, face it. If you take your ego out of the equation, go back and read some of the OD forums and tell me how they differ from hearing children on the playground. Here on Clipper's forum, I think we have created an environment for thoughtful exchange of ideas and opinions. I hope it continues. In fact, I'm a bit worried we will attract the riffraff from the OD forums as they close. (Present riffraff excepted.)

Hey Dave, don't worry about attracting the riffraff from the OD. ;D My target practice is getting better n better everyday. So glad you clarified "present riffraff excepted." We wouldn't want to hurt Clipper's feelings. ;D
