www.uticaod.com/homepage/x1300272671Ya know, when I was running for Council and Time Warner was taking over Adelphia, I sat in on one meeting in caucus that had one of their reps in attendance to speak on the takeover. They assured the Council at that time that rates would not be going up as we had some of the highest around. They have risen none-the-less ever since. We stopped cable a little over a year ago, threw up a $39.00 antenna and called it good and switched over to DSL as well. And while I do miss Discovery, Food, and other channels, I just can't believe they want more $$$. It's gotta be costing people with basic Cable & Internet over $100 a month now.

Ralph - I have Cable Delux with 2 boxes, and 2 TVs with Cable that has 99 channels, 3 digital phones, and Road Runner Internet Service - all costing me $165/month - which I consider a bargain.
Before I converted to their digital phone service, I was paying nearly $100 a month for phone service and long distance phone calls. My internet service was with AOL (dial up) for around $40 a month.
IMO - if my rates go up $8 a month, it is still worth the convenience and service I receive from Time Warner.

Yet the FTC does not view this as monopolistic behavior.

There's definitely pros and cons to this subject. I have the deluxe package with phones and internet. I had the dish which at the time could not offer me what cable does.
I am now looking into their home security system which I hear is great.
Its allot of money but for me it comes down to convenience as thelma stated. I also agree with tommi they got us and know it.

I looked into one home security service and when I found out that when a detector was activated the secruity service would call me on my cell phone, I saved a lot of money by buying and installing my own wireless detector system that calls me directly and the police at the same time. I have two motion detectors, fire/smoke, 2 door opens, water detector, freeze detector and the ability to call my house, get status and listen in via the phone. All for under $500.

Swimmy, look around the following site. I bought my system about 5 or 6 years ago. It is the Visonic Powermax. Pretty neat, completely wireless, a bit complicated to set up, but worth it. In addition to the features I mentioned, it also has a facility for an alert if NOTHING moves for a specified period of time, e.g, if you have a elderly parent at home. My motion detectors are "pet immune." I didn't get the glass breakage detector. When you have an alert, it calls three numbers (including a security service if you want that) and waits for a reset from you. I have it call me first on my cell, then my wife, then the cops. The store I'm sending you to (I have no interest in their welfare) is a real bricks-and-mortar store in California. You can call and talk to their tech folks. tinyurl.com/2d8jo7
